Ok, having watched all of it in one sitting-

It's ok. The pacing is off, meaning episodes tend to either be all action, all character building or all setup, with very little mix and the characters are a bit in your face (I wonder if Pyra like Juan, no hints at all. Anywhere.) Also, some plotlines get completely dropped and then picked up out of nowhere, like the robo-girl.

That said, it seems like the plot is slowly building, with hints about what the bad guys end game is being drip fed. My question is though- when is this tournament starting?! It's been mentioned for ages, the other students are starting to arrive (apparently) and yet the still haven't done the qualifiers for who gets to represent Vale.

Animation is... Ok. There's a lot of clipping (the emerald girl when she's walking for example, her hand clips through her gun on every step) and a lot of laziness when it comes to background characters (How does the yellow girl expect to "turn heads" at the dance when every other girl is wearing an identical dress, and look at what the girls in the background are wearing when Weiss makes the call. It;s all identical), but that's to be expected for a web series on a shoestring budget.

In all, it's alright. I'm not going to religiously follow it, but will catch up when I'm bored.

Have better writers and people who don't splice together so many tropes of anime/tv/games/movies.

I would be much more intimidated, I would know that they don't mess around. There is still the issue of lack of on screen actions but the voice acting in this show really kills it for me especially since like you said in the text reviews, Yang really is not that good and Blake, to me at least, is so flat instead of stoic.

One other question; what do you think about my review? I tried to do Linkara's thing with my review but I don't think I did well enough and I was probably way too angry.
The girl from that third clip sounds like Ami Koshimizu, is that the voice Actress?
If that's the case I wish she was voicing Cinder. She's one of the best voice actresses I've ever heard.

But considering that Jessica Nigri isn't a voice actor I'd say she's not doing a bad job as Cinder. I think she could be directed better, at the end of episode 5 she was still trying to sound all creepy even though only what's-his-name and What's-her-name could hear her and that seemed stupid to me, but with the right direction she could be a pretty chilling villain.

In my lofty dreams I want Jen Taylor or even Tara Strong to voice Yang. How great would it be if Jen Taylor voiced Yang and Tara Strong voiced Blake. It would be like Rampant Cortana and Raven in a scene together. Or the other way around, Harley Quinn and a slightly more stoic Dr Halsey.

But they don't even need big name voice actresses to get the general feel of a scene right

I'll leave a proper comment on your review when I get back from work today.
Is Linkara the guy from team 4star? I didn't even know he did reviews.

The seiyuu is Yukana, voice of Code Geass's CC, Ami typically sounds more tomboyish but that's just me

The Seiyuu in the first clip is Mitsuaki Madono (know nothing about him) while the Seiyuu for both the second and fourth clip is Nakamura Yuuichi (yes, same voice, I love Hazama/Terumi)

The voice acting really is one of my biggest problems since there is either no direction and effort to make it sound good or the direction they chose is horrible.

Linkara is a comic reviewer for That Guy with the Glasses and his own site, Atop the Fourth Wall. He generally does something similar to the Nostalgia critic runing trhough the comic and commenting on it while making jokes.

We're both Escapees, it's quite likely we both watch Zero Punctuation. I think we've all heard the weight argument over and over again. My issue isn't that it was addressed, it's that Ruby addressed it. Why was that her first thought? I found it a break in character and that's what bothered me so much.

Especially since he could've just had one arm bigger than the other and left the whole thing ambiguous. Or would that have been childish?
Does it really break character? I mean, it literally established that episode that she's a weapon nut and designed her own scythe. Why wouldn't it be her first thought at the line "And when I get tired of carrying it, I can just fold it up and put it away"?

Because both she and the lad are well aware of the weight? There's no question about it in that case. She'd have known he meant it was easier to carry when it was smaller and freed up both his hands for other stuff. If she's really that into weapons, the question is unnecessary. If she wasn't, it was unnatural. The line stood out because it was deliberately designed to cover that base, and I just found it cheap and unpleasant.

That sounded like Dyshana from Record of Agarest War who was voiced by Ami Koshimizu who also voiced Kallen. Small world.

I think the voice acting is pretty week in most cases.
I don't think I have lower standards I just have a higher pain threshold, so a lot of the really bad performances don't bother me as much. (Blake and Yang not withstanding) But Pyrrha, Lie, Glynda and Emerald are all really bad but it doesn't bother me. They use some of their better voice actors for really smaller parts like Joel played a professor who only appeared in one episode. Shannon McCormic is probably the best actor they have on staff over there, so Ozpin lines are always a joy. And Gray seems to know what he's doing. At least Lindsay does a good job, but for the most part none of the characters have enough lines that matter. (Except that last god damn scene with Yang and Blake. That scene sucked so much)

Ok, I just checked. Ladies and gents, the next episode is coming.

And while I don't know anything about what's going on, I can say there is one thing in the next one.

Two words.

Dance. Number.

Honestly, I know that it's a dance, but considering we got FF8 level dancing in the previous episode, and from what I read they apparently dedicate a whole bit to a dance number for humor.

I won't go any further than that because from what I read we're getting quite a few quick conclusions to some of the stuff that was brought up in the previous ep.

We shall see.
