Vs threads
I need help about my insignificant emotional problems threads
Why all the hate threads
Am I the only one threads.
Thread game in the wrong forum threads
etc

Theres plenty of ways to get a popular thread with many replies. Just dont offer up anything too thought provoking, or with a lot of required reading or people will just ignore it.

Least thats been my experience.

1. Find controversy.
2. Post that controversy.
3. Optional, but highly advised: Include opinion that goes against the grain.
4. ???
5. Shiny new badge!

Optional method: At the moment, just make a thread about Extra Credits.
Why something with Extra Credits?

Polls are always a good way, also topical discussion or talking about popular games for example a thread called "Deus Ex: Invisible Warfare, Was it Really "That" Bad?" with a poll.

Find another thread that was popular a little while ago, and copy it.

What the fuck? Why post those images and advertise that bullshit misogyny blog to get yourself banned?

A thread with the word 'gay' in it.

Seriously, worked for me when I made a thread about gay Torchwood scenes. I doubt that thread would have gotten not nearly as many replies as it did if the words. "Gay scene cut from Torchwood" wasn't in the title.

Basically, a controversial topic or one with many avenues of discussion work too.

Here is what you do.

step 1: Make a thread called "You are now the last thing you ate in a video game." (I actually like this kind of thread.)
step 2: ???
step 3: Profit

I got a good 10 pager going the other day by just creating a topic that everyone could add to and discuss. It worked quite well really. However in lack of something good to add just take your opinion, post it as absolute fact and insult anyone that disagrees with you. That usually works.

Wait until a big news story breaks and be the first to post it. Almost guaranteed to get you a lot of views/replies. There's also the option of just trolling, like the "American Humor is Terrible" thread from earlier. Anything that directly insults a large group of people, then allows them a huge variety of ways to defend themselves (T.V shows, movies, comedians) is a great way, albeit wrong and dickish, to do it.

Claim to hate a popular game. Bonus points if you claim to be "The only one" who dislikes it.

For example:

Am I the only one who thinks murder, theft and rape should be legal???

Actually that might seem to much like an obvious troll :p

Well there was that one time where I made that post on what computer stats you had and earned that yellow flame badge thing for it. Hell, I didn't even care for my computer stats, and I just read off from the about thing on my MAC. Still reeled them in.

Suckers.

Given the Extra Credits thing, I'm surprised more people aren't pulling account suicides. Certainly enough people have said "I'm leaving forever" that you'd think you couldn't enter a topic without, at least, one person killing their account.

But, then again, having seen the same thing on Gamefaqs time and time again, I imagine that these threats are mostly just hot air.
