Goku wanting to dull his taste buds, jeez what has this world come to?

Seriously man, don't do it is all I can say.

Also I can't help but question the bit about psychiatrists wanting to send you to the looney bin just because of what you describe. This isn't the 1920s anymore, and for american psychiatrists in particular to want to do that instead of giving you meds that aren't really an effective solution and in fact makes you somewhat reliant on them but keep them in business makes me VERY suspicious there's aspects of this story you're not telling us.

In meantime, the above advice of taking up smoking (as horrible as it sounds to advise people to develop a bad habit, and I say this as a smoker myself) or dulling your buds through regular consumption of spicy food is probably the least extreme answer you will get.
The smoking and excessive spice aren't really options. I have no interest in smoking, and, if my dad's any indication, the miniscule taste bud dulling isn't worth turning my lungs into tar pits.

Also, I like spicy foods.

Well... maybe you were crackers then too. Between this and your numerous other 'I'm completely mental' posts, I'd suggest, assuming the things you post are legit, getting professional help. From a therapist that is. Professional help from an accountant isn't going to help here.
When did I mention an accountant?

I'm still not understanding the logic of why you think not being able to taste your food would help you. If you truly "love" food, you shouldn't want to destroy your ability to enjoy it. Being a supertaster is considered a normal genetic variation, and as such, there is no treatment. You ARE normal.

I'm sorry, but it sounds like you should just talk to a mental health professional about developing a more healthy attitude about it, and/or finding a way to cope with criticism... Although it sounds like you also need someone to help you develop a better attitude about mental health professionals.
Need I mention that those happened when I was in Elementary school? On top of that, isn't listening to criticism a good thing? Isn't it bad if people get offended by criticism?
Not always. Some critics are full of shit. And if your critics are saying you're awful if you don't like fast food, they are also probably full of shit.

Also happening in elementary school doesn't exclude you from seeking help for it. The original event cannot be erased, but your feelings on it can be examined and changed. Same goes for any other incidents that might be causing you mental distress. It doesn't matter how long ago it was if it's still causing you misery.

Restaurants need chefs, bruh. And there are plenty of restaurants around.

And not to be a jerk, but... I mean, if multiple professionals suggested you seek help, even institutionalized help, maybe it was a good suggestion? There's nothing wrong with tending to your mental health.

What does that have to do with anything, if it happened when you were a kid then maybe trying again as an adult will help you more, you are talking about destroying a part of yourself because you are fixating on something someone else told you.

Destroying one of your senses is not going to make you normal if you are still having recurring memories to the point where you are seriously contemplating destroying a part of your body, what's going to stop you from fixating on some other incident or something else someone says, that's the part that's not normal, not your sense of taste.

Eating food only for sustenance is not the norm, only a small minority of people don't derive any satisfaction or preference for different types of food.

Yeah put me down in the 'Maybe try more therapy' camp.

Admittedly I know little about America, but over here you have to do something fucking drastic to wind up in a 'loony bin'.
Need I mention that those happened when I was in Elementary school?
Okay? I'm not entirely sure what that's supposed to mean.
You're not in Elementary school now. Things are different. You can seek therapy as an adult and therapists are not just itching to sling you up the nut house, trust me.

If you're not quite ready to seek therapy, try self help.

If you've been admitted for psychological disturbance in the past wouldn't it seem logical to think that perhaps you might not be thinking completely clearly about this? I mean, just look at the responses in this thread and how unified they are against what you are proposing. What you are looking to do is unsafe and unwise for a variety of reasons. Normally I would say you just need to make a conscious effort to develop some self control around your relationship with food, but this desire seems borne out of the criticism you received from others and are reacting violently to. You're focusing on the food when really I think you should be thinking about why you have decided dulling your taste buds is an acceptable action and your relationships with other people.

This thread makes no sense, maybe smother everything in ketchup? that'll dull your sense of taste.

I honestly don't see what the problem here is, are you being bullied by people that are actualy jealous of your sense of taste or what?

Seriously take up cooking or somthing, as a hobby atleast. It would probably be a better use of your time.

Don't breath through your nose while you eat?

This is the weirdest thread I've seen since that guy wanted a way to become legedimently blue by poisoning himself with silver.

Is it sad that in a thread where someone is trying to turn themselves blue by intentionally taking outrageous amounts of silver, the most disturbing thing is the spelling and the notion that one can be so 'musically talented' that they don't have to worry about money or the potential social issues that may arise from being fucking blue?

I'd be careful to not cast stones if I were you. In a 'who's being more reasonable' competition, Mr. Smurf has got you beat.

I'm not sure a permanent approach would really be necessary. Temporary means would probably be more than effective and convenient enough, plus if you find that the change helps you re-balance whatever it is that seems to be giving you trouble, you might be able to go wean yourself off your taste-suppression and have everything work out.

At first I was going to do some heavy-handed research to come up with some suggestions, but honestly, this google search result seems like it has some pretty solid ideas:

http://www.wikihow.com/Dull-Your-Taste-Buds

While a lot of the suggestions there might not be relevant here, I think the ice water and peppermint ideas sound particularly ideal.

What you describe sounds similar to body dysmorphic disorder. Though I'm not sure what you would call it when it doesn't relate to appearance but instead to a sense.
Mindfulness might be helpful. It is basically being in the moment, being able to observe without judgment.

The act of dulling your tastebuds would only provide you temporary happiness. I say this based on what I have seen with others who have modified their body due to a perceived flaw.

Honestly, @DarklordKyo the issue is more of a mental thing than a taste thing.

If you don't trust going to those around you for help, try talking to a psych yourself.

Don't like/can't get at a psych, track down a clergyman. they tend to know how to help people themselves...or at least know someone who can.

1."dulling" your sense of taste won't end the lust of hunger or "cravings". It's neurological issue.

2. The "taste" comes from your nose.

3. It's only going to make it worse.

Or if you want to lose weight... just learn how to cook, so you can make tasty low calorie foods. and maybe hit the gym, if you are too heavy for cardio just do weights.

People will do anything to lose weight, except diet and exercise.... And I mean how bad can it be that burning yourself would be better?
