It just needs another new spin on the combat system and a story which is actually EASY to follow.

Maybe they can improve (alot) on the FF12 combat. Ill give credit to the gambit thing though, once you get the hang of it, you don't need to control most of your characters.

(You can even get infite exp with the right gambits).

Am I the only one thinking that FFIX was actually decent for having most of the changes people mentioned above?

Sorry, I find it ironic that people hated it, but now that is exactly what they want...
I too quite like FFIX, although in hindsight the game would be fucking levels better if the main character didn't have a tail.

I really despise the complaint that Final Fantasy 12 was too "hands-off". The gambits are an OPTION, no one sat there and forced you to use them. If you enjoy hitting the attack button 20 times a minute and micro managing every single skill be my guest but don't ruin the option of not having to do that for the rest of us that don't enjoy that type of gameplay. There are plenty of valid complaints that can be thrown at Final Fantasy 12 but the option of using gambits is not one of them.

I find FFXII to be my favorite in the series. Beating out VII and IV.

Yea, Vaan wound up being "Support" and the final boss was just....lame. Pathetic. Crappy. Bush Administration.

You get the idea. 8/

But I LOVED the combat system. And the Marks were really fun to chase down. (Aside from Gilgamesh, FUCKYOU dude. Oh, and Tiamat. *shudder*)

>.> Bye now.

destroy anything that has to do with the battle system in twelve or anything additional to 7, or 10. that's all i have to say on that

I mean for the love of god i was making a sandwhich watching my characters pummel enemies for the first 15 hours of 12, where is the fun in the gambit system.

nowhere.

Bring back Materia. Seriously, get rid of Junction, Sphere Grid, License Points and GIVE ME MATERIA!

And also, go back to proper turned based combat.

Games not even out yet and allready people are making these stupid topics.

Congratulations all you whiny complainy morons, you are officially worse than Gamefaqs and Youtube users, enjoy your crappy titles.

At least WAIT until the game comes out before you have a Purist vs JRPG Hater vs FF Hater War!
I am actually super excited for 13 and 13 versus I hated 12 and i was excited for that until it came out, then i realized it was a terrible game.

so all in all 13 looks phenomenal and I hope it plays as great as it looks i really do.

I've been reading a lot of Final Fantasy post lately and have noticed that most people didn't like 12. I was indifferent towards 12 myself and I was just thinking, most things get worse with squeals so how can we save Final Fantasy?
I think by the 13th main title sequel... oops I mean squeal. The rule concerning a franchise generally getting worse no longer applies. Final Fantasy has had multiple ups and downs since the first one. Also, in video games, sequels improve as often as they deteriorate (Battle Arena Toshinden I was horrible compared to II)

As for the Final Fantasy series, I say they need to piss off with these magical fairy land BS. The old school FFers love VI more than any other based purely on conversations I've had which was more sci-fi in theme than any of the other old school titles. VII is also a fairly universal favorite.

I enjoyed VII too, and when IX rolled around I was annoyed at the step backward. X got back on track, a more organic world, but still fairly sci-fi. And then XII tried to go back to the old again with that whole Ivalice crap. Yes I know there were laser guns, but it was still more fantasy than not.

XIII seems to have already addressed that. So I'm waiting to see how it plays out before I make any judgments.

And please don't say "well it should be fantasy, it is called Final Fantasy" because then I'll be forced to point out that even if we ignore VI through VIII there are only a billion games with the moniker invalidating the whole "Final" thing as well. Which I only mention because someone else has tried that with me. I'm one of those people who don't think that knights of the round table stuff is all that fantastic.

Jesus Christ can we at least wait to pull all the 'save square' crap untill AFTER XIII is released.

Moreover it does not need saving! Most of these things people are bitching about like angrogenous male leads i, and square, consider FF staples, traditions, if you dont like them then dont play the FF series! Those aspects of the game are fanservice, series' that go on for a long as this while keeping the same basic formula are clearly made for fans.

Since i feel obliged toactually answer the OPs in my first post on a thread, how do we save FF - character development. Thats the only thing XII was missing.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=459841&topic=46066678 had character development TYVM

also the leads are not Androgynous! I have shown PLENTY of people Unrelated to the FF series there characters and they know there men from sight.

They have soft features yes! but the majority of them are still in there teens! Cloud was in his 20's yes, but no Vaan who was like 17.

Thats just baseless hate thrown around by idiots who can't think of proper criticisim.

What should FFXIII do that FFXII didn't?

Pace the story properly, that was XII's fault. the pacing was bad. Not the combat, not the characters, not the story itself, not the setting, the Pacing.
I was going to read that entire post of gamefaqs because its the courteous thing to do but that is freaking huge and by the 4th or 5th consecutive post by that guy i thought it was pretty clear he had missed the point. Dont expect me to go back and quote the game because i only went through the game once, for about 120 hours, of which i was amazed for the first 10-20, and my opinion went downhill from there. The thing is with character development is that characters are supposed to develop to show more than the 'role' they are assigned to, i felt everyone in FFXII developed into exactly what i expected them to, which means as a character they are still flat.

Oh and as far as that guy defends story, yeah, fine, the story was lovely, i just wished it could have been expanded on further

I like that they arent big manly men, i only use androgenous because thats the word i have thrown my way so often as a defender of FF. But i guess if i was to switch roles i'd say yeah, from 8 onwards (7 is a no, dont care what some say you cannot be girly carrying a sword like that around) they have been on the borderline - purposefully, as they are the emotional points which you can empathisize with them and the other characters compliment him (i dont mean verbally), almost like the 'control' character.

Apparently, when there's just one game that's sub-par, this is a trend that the series is getting worse.
I don't suppose you'll call it a blip if XIII turns out to be good...

I must be one of the few people that actually enjoyed both FF:X and FF:XII. I actually liked the Gambit system in XII because I could sit back and watch my plan either succed in destrying a boss without my help, or fall to pieces and the trip to the "Game Over" sceen. I actually fell asleep once trying to fight a FF:X battle (Yunalesca for people playing at home) but I still liked the ATB system becuse you could plan it step by step.

Now if you had an option for which battle system to use at the start of the game (like which Shpere Grid you wanted to use in FF:X) maybe it could appeal to both groups of people.

By the way, I liked both FF:X and FF:XII, but tried and hated FF:VII... so maybe my opinions will fall on deaf ears.
