I'd say let XII rot, and wait for XIII.

It's simple: Look at the good Final Fantasy games:

4 was the one that started gamers onto FF
7 had Aeris' death, and few other great things
10 was on top again.

So, logically, 13 will be the next awesome one.

Which is not to say the other FFs aren't good: they just aren't in the same class as these ones.

Stop making them and declare the series legally dead.
*TWITCHES* *shakes fist* Whats wrong with you.... have you even played a final fantasy (except X2 or 8 or 11, they were shite)? *twitches more*
Twitch at me all you want because yes I have I've played all of them from 4-12 (except 11)not to mention that I hated 8 and X-2 as well, even if calling X-2 a Final Fantasy is stretching the definition a little. Saying that I don't like or understand a series because I haven't played it, when I have; at length is hardly defending the series and makes you look like more of a fanatic than anything.

Bring back turn based combat, cut out the teen drama and make way for really evil villains, big swords, summoned creatures and chocabos.

I am anticipating FF XIII. I don't see why people want to "save" it. Wait for it to come out before asking how to save it.

Also, I have to agree with Omni about the gambit system. There is no reason to complain if you can just turn Gambits off. I never flipped them off, but I always knew I could if I wanted to control all of the character's actions.

But in all seriousness we have battle images for FFXIII and all I have to say is.

Hahahahahahahahahaha it's not traditional suck it! (I hate purists as much as I hate mindless haters)
Kind of, but also kind of not.

It's using the ATB system again, but now different actions deplete the ATB bar by different amounts. It's more of an evolution of the system as it started appearing in FFX-2 where different moves had different cooldowns.

I also feel it's too early to be crying for changes. But as someone who has been disinterested with the franchise since X, I have to say, the new storyline and art direction is pretty enticing. I'll be watching for more.

Am I the only one thinking that FFIX was actually decent for having most of the changes people mentioned above?

Sorry, I find it ironic that people hated it, but now that is exactly what they want...
I too quite like FFIX, although in hindsight the game would be fucking levels better if the main character didn't have a tail.
Hurray for the minority who actually like IX! I too enjoyed this game, much more so than X or VIII. Zidane would be way cooler with less tail and more headbutts. I really felt sad for Vivi when you realize that black mages are just weapons... :(

I asked if you had (if a bit dramatically) played them, I never said you didn't 'get' them, I just asked. Now I know, well everyone's allowed to have their own opinion, tp be honest, i'm not that big of a fan, I only liked 9, 10 and 12, they were the 'good' ones (I never got past the first disc on 7 so don't shout at me for never appreciating it fully).

I never said you didn't appreciate it fully, you're the one who assumed I was writing a series off without having played it. And you're in the minority of series fans for only liking 9, 10, and 12. Not saying that's wrong it's just unusual.

Look her is my list of things they need to do
1. Guy characters look like guys not pretty girls
2. Hair doesn't work like that in real life so fix it
3. Guns suck in a final fantasy remove them forever
4. Put characters that people will remember not ones people forget the second a new game comes out
5. Think up a new plot it seems they've been using the same plot only a little different for so long now
6. Girl characters don't all have to be sex idols make realistic women but not ugly
7. It's called armor not skinny ass leather crap that wouldn't protect from a leaf
8. No more unnecessary characters in your party keep it to 4 people
9. NO MORE EMO BULL CRAP how many times am I going have to sit threw "I'm my own monster"
10. Guy characters look like guys not pretty girls
yeah, what he said.

Except the guns.

change back to the ff7 game character designer and stop making it american (western designs)

.make it relate able again =( romance ,normal characters without the ego trips (ff8 =/),and great voice actors help set the mood and make you like or hate a actor.

How bout we've got a story as mature and willing to deal with difficult questions as Final Fantasy 9? But turn down the convolution, please.

Give me villians I give a crap about. Not just 'evil because we like to be evil' kefka-esque one dimensional psychos. I want villians who are villians because their point of view and way of seeing the world conflicts directly with the protagonist/s. I'll be back with more.

Fire Tetsuya Nomura. He had one success in the field of character design, and that was Final Fantasy VII. Every game since has just been a variation on that same spiky, leather-clad, vaguely effeminate theme.

Also, cut the voice acting if you can't get quality actors. It's not a like a gamer who plays Final Fantasy regularly is going to be opposed to reading anyway.

I hated Nine...sure the topic might of been a tad more mature...the art just didn't match for me.

A more compelling story would be nice. I mean 7 and 8 are my favorite from the series, but even their stories were lacking (or like seven drilled to death)... Something new and refreshing that doesn't involve the looming destruction of a way life from nature lashing back because of societies own mistakes...We get the irony Square, we're fucking ourselves over I don't want to play a game about that though...

Hows about it's FINAL fantasy?
Lame...you're not being clever by using that "joke" for the billionth time. (Also grammar...you are looking for "its", not "it is". Apostrophes, sir.)

Under any circumstances, DO NOT bring back materia. That is one of the reasons why I disliked VII...far too much fiddling, and made the characters seem very generic. (also the story was too vague, the characters were rather unlikable, and Sephiroth's motivation is crap.) I actually quite liked the sphere grid and license board.
