Sorry for my ignorance by why do adult men without children like this show and feel the need to show it on internet forums? Not an attack on anyone who likes the show, but everywhere I turn there's a pony avatar or something to that effect

So after being bashed by three RL friends in an x-box live party i am wondering, how can you tell someone about the series and make it sound like something they would enjoy, or should I just stop trying and let them find it on their own?
This thread doesn't go very far in countering anyone's perceptions of bronies. You actually claim to have been "ponybashed." Let that sink in for a second. You're co-opting the treatment of homosexuals. Your life is not that hard.

Your friends are going to make fun of you for engaging in nerdy shit, be it Battlestar Galactica (which I absolutely love), referring to X-Box Live as real life (for which I'd recommend a reality check), or watching a show about hyperactive pastel ponies made for little girls. It sounds like you like the show because it offers you the ability to alienate yourself and then say "Oh my, I seem to have been alienated! What do I do?" I know people in their 30's who still watch Ed, Ed and Eddy and Spongebob Squarepants, and they do not create threads asking about how to come out to their friends and parents.

So, in all sincerity, my recommendation is to get over yourself.

That's probably the reaction you should expect. If they had said non-sarcastically, "I've never heard of it, but ponies are so bad ass that I know I would love it," you would likely be just as concerned.

I too am completely in the dark about all this pony stuff. Guess I'll go look it up. If I feel properly persuaded I'll change my avatar to a pony, I suppose.

I always phrase it like this: "When you get your first glimpse of the show, it's not going to be very appealing. But if you take the time to watch an episode, you'll see that it isn't cutesy or saccharine at all apart for the art style. The stories certainly aren't. They're not dark, exactly, but they're not a bit lighter than any other show."
My 2 year old daughter thinks the ponies are pretty so I have to watch the show. It is most certainly more cutesy, saccarine, and brainless/light than even most of the other kiddie shows aimed at that young age group. It's horrible, painful to watch.
Let's set some limits here: It's not worse than Higglytown Heroes or Dora the Explorer, and certainly not as saccharine. As long as we can agree on that, I'll agree to disagree. Oh, and let's remember that in that episode where Fluttershy babysits,
Twilight Sparkle gets killed. She gets turned to stone, and petrified ponies sure aren't alive. Yes, she does get better, but still.

Well there are a number of reasons.

1. Point out though a list of reasons why MLP:FIM isn't just a show intended for small girls with the show full of diabetes but is not likely to work out well though X-BOX live or what commonly dwells there.

2. Dare them to watch the first 4 episodes as a way of proving their masculinity without becomeing a Brony. Be sure to also quiz them and as additional bragging rights see how many more episodes they can watch without going girly.

However it doesn't sound like you would be able to convence them and besides there is no need to go evangelical about it like so many already have based on how many on the escapist is already annoyed by us in our recruiting efforts. Better for them to ask questions about the show first and decide for themselves if they might be interested in watching the show rather then forcing the issue.
