Ivy style is much better, and less touted than either the fedora or it's bent cousin the trilby--especially the leather ones, as with that comes the much valued naturally waterproof awesomeness (which means, since your head is warm, the rest of you will be). The derby and bowler variety are interesting, but should only be applied for specific occasions, as their effect is more distinct (and they're harder to buy the right size for). Beanies are alright as long as their interesting and not just bland, boring, or set up with a shit-kicker logo. Cowboy hats are fine in the right situations with the right background, personality, and appropriate amount of knuckle, but if it's just some douche wearing one, then you punch him in the face. If he doesn't immediately punch back, that man is a fake, and must be eliminated from beneath the hat. Top hats are unique, but extremely out of place in today's world, and just make you look like a twat (unless it's a comical presentation, used for effect). Ball caps...can fuck right off, yeah, those posers. Unless they're not considered hats, but caps. Then they can stay. Just...away from me.

The pride of my collection is a Mossant! Bowler from the 1920's, though the Ivy style remains my favorite everyday use.

So, after the roaring response of "HATS! OI! HATS! OI! OI OI OI OI OI!" to my earlier thread, "Hats: Are they back?", I've decided to go back to the days of that greatest man, Frank Sinatra, and mix and match some hats.

Fedoras: The man's hat, the courageous hat that's not afraid to be out there in the field, looking a baseball cap square in the eye and saying: "Out. Of. My. Town." The Mafia and Frank Sinatra make this one an icon, even today.

Trilbies: One of my favourite types, I own four of these, two less than my fedora collection then. My personal favourite has to be a black trilby with a white band. Popularised... actually, can't really say, behind the scenes, really.

Baseball caps: Die in a fire, you patethic worm.

Beanies: Honestly.
HONESTLY.

Bowlers: Popularised firmly in England, this one. Extremely popular among the richer gents in London, it is an icon.

Cowboy hats: I started off with these. I still have my first one, a black one with a woven band. Popularised in: Where do you think, genius?

Can't think of any more right now, anyone have something to discuss about hats?
We need hat threads here, y'know.
Bowler hat in London? Yeah maybe 50 years ago, but not now!

No, just no.

I know hats are cool and all, but when I see a guy who's below 20, dressed up like the motherfucking Al Capone or Dr Watson, I just laugh.
I can't imagine a situation, in which me wearing a fedora wouldn't make people think "What the fuck is this guy's problem?"
LOL, yeah, trilby's/fedoras just look stupid on people unless they're wearing a suit to match them, are over 30, or are a businessman. People who wear them like this [http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_R-5kp8rvgMA/ScdR9wwGJ6I/AAAAAAAAD9Q/lkSKtnl_1lg/s320/ASOS+Checker+Trilby.jpg] are just fashion victims.

Wearing hats for novelty/comedic value is however, a different matter :D
Hey that's no fair fedora's are awesome no matter what the occasion I've been wearing one everyday for five years. before they were popular (yes I've gotten a new one since my first) no one has ever said anything negative about my fedora. this is me in mine with my dog

and no I didn't just rip this off of Google images

I wear an akubra whenever I'm outdoors for a long time. I like to think it says: I'm Australian . . . mate. It probably just says: 'I'm a stereotype' but I don't care, it's too awesome.

Well, wow-ee. That's kind of what I meant. POPULARISED by the richer gents of London, not presently worn by them.

Yeah, because practicality is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO overrated.
I just don't like them, I didn't say they weren't practical.
They don't exactly give off the best image either. When I'm wearing my suit walking through the city, I don't think a baseball cap would give me as good an appearance as, say, a fedora, or my trusty sidekick, Trilby Hatsworth.
I really like that trilby.
