How Valve botched yet another launch

Valve is supposed to be a professional game developer, yet they never pull their act together for a release. Despite them proclaiming in interviews to have tons of free time due to their new development strategy, they still fail to get the game out on time. I'm really getting sick of this.

I think you're missing the point. They can't spontaneously pull an infinite amount of bandwidth out of their ass. If a million+ people try to download the game at the same time its not going to work.

They delayed the game because they found a game crashing bug. Not because of a lack of bandwidth. And they know a large number of people are going to try to download the game and play. They should be ready for that.

They delayed the game because they found a game crashing bug. Not because of a lack of bandwidth. And they know a large number of people are going to try to download the game and play. They should be ready for that.

Well, ok, game crashing bug is egg in their face. At least they fixed it in less than an hour.

This man speaks truth, listen to him. I think what happened is that Value experienced some server errors from a massive crush of people crowding steam(which explains why the forums were slowed to a crawl and the community section was down). After all, it would be stupid for Valve to maintain a system to service the traffic that they only get during release date. In a few hours the congestion will clear up some(but the game servers are still going to be packed). It's down to the waiting game since the tubes of the internet are all clogged up.

Edit: Man decryption takes a long time. Give me my unreasonably large prime number and lets do this already.

Even if they wanted to, i don't think it would be possible for them to set up a system that wouldn't nearly crash under these kinds of strains. I'm guessing... over a million downloads world wide. No matter what you do, you can't set up that kind of bandwidth. No way.
