Joining the "Saw Thor" crowd here, and damn I loved it. Sadly the reveal at the end of the credits was a bit too obscure for me. Googling afterwards reveals it will be preeeetty damn important.

After that I played some TF2, finally played half-decent again as a Scout.

Quite nice actually. A good friend and I went to go see Thor. Heard some sad pony related news though.

(I like this thread. We should have one like this every night =))

Got back from town with an excellent book about how complexity pervades biology, cooked some fish, rang a friend, had a beer, played Mirror's Edge and then went to sleep. It was pretty nice.

for some reason Ive lost interest in comic book movies...

also I think Ive become some sort of angry feminist because all I can think about when it comes to thor is....well THOR going around doing manley fighting things while his love interest probably gets kidnapped eventually (not saying shes not a strong charachter or anything...she could be)

Not saying its a bad film its probley great (I havnt seen it) but yeah...mabye after watching films Ive just grown tired of Men having all the fun...
Can you tell me a fight scene between a man and woman in an action movie where the woman loses?

An advertisement where the man isn't the butt of the joke in a male-female relationship?
"Highschool musical 3, shrek 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean"
Never seen HSM but shrek and POTC both contain examples of (some might say) excessive female-gender role subversion.

Why can't a man's motivation be protecting someone he loves?

As for me, had a wicked night.
oh its you......

I wasnt critcizing anything....plus the whole "counter argument" thing I dont think does much for eather sides of the debate plus thats being a little defensive...anyway allow to to share my veiw

those are all annoying double standards yes, its true that both genders are subject to double standards..Im aware of this

also as you pointed out "a fight between a man and women..woman always wins" you say that like I would think its a good thing? its not in fact its a bad thing because the girl is never going to lose because the idea of "hitting a girl" is still taboo, therefore she eather pulls some kind of kung fu and will never get a scratch....OR she'll simply only fight the oppoasing female which is even worse

thats why I love kill bill ,it subverts all that, the bride gets bashed and takes and gives out all kinds of beatings...she's EAQUEL

also the "man being the butt of the joke" in relationships is also annoying for both genders, because if you want to look at it one way it shows that men just want to do fun crazy things while the woman is a joyless shrew who wants him to "settle down and have kids" OR it shows that most men are imature man children

anyway in regards to thor...it was just a feeling I had as to why Im so "meh" when it comes to action/comic book movies...sure like a few years ago I would have been liek OMG THOR!! AWSOME!!

but now for some reason I notice gender/ double standards more and it botheres more...not that I cant enjoy such films...but Im less likeley to bother with them in the first place (depending on the film of coarse...)

I think I get my action fix from Videogames nowdays anyway..and leave the drama and storys for films

EDIT: just to make it clear I wasnt criticizing POTC or HSM or shrek about gender roles..completley seperate matter

I played some Lotro in the morning, watched the new Supernatural episode, went to the store to buy some normal stuff and then watched the last 6 frames of the Snooker WC. Played some snooker, went to a friends place, had a few drinks, played some Fifa, watched some Football (Soccer for Americans) and then we watched the Finland - Slovakia game (IceHockey). Then I walked home and went to bed at about 01am... Dang it sounds like I did a lot yesterday -.-

Got pissed-ish, trekked what felt like fucking miles to find a kebab shop with a mate, walked back to where we'd been with everyone else, drank some more, went home, sleep time.

Was alright, bit boring. Hopefully gonna go and see Thor today.

It was my cousins 21st birthday. A small group came to my house to drink before going out to the bar so we wouldn't spend as much when we went out. Shortly after, he got drunk right quick and started throwing up, so my brother practically carried him home. My cousins mom who is a bit of a Holy Roller, found out. She came over and she was pissed. So all in all, I'd say it was a good night. lol Happy Birthday to him.
I hate your damn aunt and I've interacted with her all but 2 times -.-

Have we met before?

My problem is that there are plenty of movies where women are the action heroes, or kick ass.
Suckerpunch just came out. It seems that some people just take issue with any positive representation of men.
debate about Male masculinity? or was that somone else?

anyway im not against posative portrals of men, just expressing my attitude towards thor even if it is a good film

I would however go out on a limb and say that kickass females...and I mean on the level of Kill bill and not just the token love interest havnt quite[/I] been ingrained in Mainstream, HOWEVER I know Im really just generalising here and you would really have to look at the induvidual film

and its true that double standards affect both genders

Thor's mum slices a dude in half and it has a female shield-maiden with actual adequate armour covering pulling some cool stunts. Don't judge before you've seen it.

No need for so much QQ, just relax and enjoy the show. Being an 'angry feminist' is absolutely pointless. Not to mention silly, and you don't make friends with it either.

Really? that sounds awsome!

QQ?...anyway im not actually an angry feminist and mabye its not even the feminism thing I just feel so "meh" towards such films now, even though as I said a few years ago I would have been like OMG THOR AWSOME!!!! I dont really know why

also I think because of reading so much TV tropes I notice even the more subtle double standards in alot of things

Sounds awesome and is awesome.

Anyway, 'such' films? Sounds rather generalising, and very vague.

As for double standards, getting worked up about those is such a waste of time and energy. Ignore the silly things.

My friend said he had got Portal 2 on XBOX 360, and that everyone online's a greifing dumbass.

We spent the rest of the night, mildly shouting "No! On that wall!".

Replied with: "Why don't you use the PIN-Tool?".

Also replied with: "I can't - you keep spilling soda on it and now it's jammed...".

Counter-parted with: "No. That's peanut-butter.".

Then after several arguments, fights and--- I.. uh-mean team-work and co-operation, we finally finished the multi-player campaign, and we went to McDonald's because he doesn't think he's unhealthy enough.

I think comic book movies in particualr actually...I mean over the years theres been so many great ones like spider man, Dark knight ,Iron man and many more

however I think its actually because of the disapointment of Iron man 2 Im not just "meh" and now theyre are gearing up for an "avengers movie"...even MORE comic book stuff

and the spiderman reboot Im going to avoid like the plaugue

however mabye the next batman film will re-ignite my passion even if it is the last christopher nolan one :(

anyway I dont think I really get worked up over gender stuff...I just notice it more

and really latley Ive been more into games than films (though Ive been watching more films latley...the good but depressing kind)

that's almost exactly what i thought when i first saw the previews for it, i think hollywood just needs to pump the brakes a bit... that and stop casting Ryan Reynolds for EVERYTHING!!!
he looks ok as deadpool, but as the green lantern?? no.

As a matter of fact, i think i'll start a boycott of the green lantern movie!
it's not like i don't like the green lantern or anything like that, i just don't think an actor should be able to jump from Marvel to DC and back again... i guess i'm a purist in that sense. OH! sorry i started ranting...

in my opinion when there's a movie i'm on the fence about i just wait for the dvd or even for it to be on T.V.
but that's just me :)
