Well I've been told by my dad that during the seventies and eighties (When he grew up) that people would picket with signs that said "Nuke the ruskies!" or something like that, and then there was another group that was protesting gay whales (No idea, didn't even bother to ask) with signs that said something like "Kill the gay whales!" and some guy, as a form of satire, made a sign that said "Nuke the gay baby whales for Jesus!".

Basically, it's satire of hyper-conservatives, at least that's what my dad told me.
