America will decide those chinese sons'o bitches are going down, and australia will be like all "WTF mate?"
and then we will have nukes flying over every where, while russia will be like "AAAAHH, MOTHERLAND!"

OT: I dont know what I realy think will happen, but I do know what I hope:
humanity will evolve in technology and morality, expanding toward the stars in a society which is the paradigm of humanitarianism. if/when we will meet inteligent aliens we will combine our knowledge and morals, creating a greater society, with a possiblity of hybriding our races (which will indeed end the current human race).
if physical unification is impossible, humans will live out the rest of days for this universe, and hopefully find a way to transfer to another universe (if the multi-verse theory is correct). if not that, then humanity will die when the universe, and all that is within it, will collapse onto itself...

but thats just my silly wish

War - Most likely

Global Warming - In the UK anyway we're gonna freeze in the next 50 years when the gulf stream stops..
Places like Lavtia, Estonia and Russia don't have the full effects of the gulf stream and they manage ok. We'll just have to grit our teeth and wear more layers...

Disease - We're overdue but it would have to be a disease immune to antibiotics..
Like every non bacteria infection? The common cold is immune to antibiotics

Resource collapse - Oil's sell-by date is fast approaching
If people like greenpeace didn't flip out over nuclear power we'd be good for at least a few more decades, allowing more time to come up with a proper sustainable energy source. Heck, there are billions of humans out there, why not rig up massive hamster wheel like generators and we walk in them to create power? Would help combat obesity too...

Asteroid, solar flare, super volcano and anything else which can drastically change the climate or has explosive power..
Asteroids and solar flares are the only foreseeable natural events that could severely screw us over. Australia would especially be screwed from a solar flare due to the weakened ozone layer sitting over it. A pretty huge bad ass asteroid would have to be absolutely huge to wipe out all life. Anything that huge would be traveling that much slower and would hopefully be diverted due to gravity from the other planets in our solar system, or be partially blocked by the moon. Although that would cause a heck load of other problems.

Nazi re-invasion in 2018.. wait... what..
Nuke 'em from orbit ;)

Science goes wrong and does something stupid to the gene pool and DNA..
Hopefully we'd have the intelligence to only attempt this on a realistic scale in a controlled environment. Creating a ATP inhibitor would be plain silly and devastating for all life everywhere. Let's hope our scientists behave themselves.

Those little micro-organisms that NASA found the other day that turn phosphorous into arsenic..
Don't know much about these guys, but presumably they would struggle to adapt to other environments.

Generally my bet is with any of the above for short term, for a inter-world human empire I'd say it will be our own in-fighting or vastly superior alien races..
It was a very reasonable list and I can understand the reasoning behind most of them, they just don't stand up to scrutiny. I'll look more into those micro-organisms that nasa found.

This is a serious question. What do you think will finally kill off the human race?

Asteroid collision? Disease? Nuclear weapons? Sun dying?

I frankly have no idea. It would be interesting to see how this species does die, I think everyone would agree that this planet is better of without us.

Or alternatively mabye we'll find away to migrate out of this solar system and poison the rest of the universe.
well 2012 is both the end of the mayan calendar, and when sarah palin will be running for president. i dont think thats a coincidence.

oh and ps- the young turks ftw!

I don't think it'll be war. i mean, even if we nuke each other... i'm pretty sure noone considers the eskimo's a high priority target... there will always be out-of-the-way spots where people will survive. disease seems more likely, but even them, some people will probably be resistant to it. aliens are too far away (although they ARE real), so I guess an asteroid impact is the biggest threat to the human race.... talk about astronomical odds.... the sun dying will take too long, like millions of years. we'll have colonized other solar systems by then.

The human race will accidentally destroy itself when scientists learn how to harness anti-matter and some idiot decides to test a bomb on THE SAME PLANET as the one we live on.

Nah, the nuclear war will be just the beinning of another bloody chapter in history.

Because war... war never changes.

I think we'll die of some cosmic doohickery we didn't even know was possible.

nukes probably won't end us
disease probably won't without extra external factors
my most logical guess would be natural selection
the runner up being a combination of disaters and disease

Plausible, kinda-plausible, plausible, not-really, thoroughly plausible, unlikely.

Resource collapse would cause civilization as we know it to drop to lower tech levels, but it wouldn't wipe us out.

Science is a more cautious conglomerate entity than you might think. Lots of testing, blind trials and control groups. We're meticulous like that.

what will kill off the world? the sun going supernova.
what will kill off the human race? genetical change and evolution.
what will kill off humanity? some guy with a mind controlling device (no free will=no humanity).

nukes won't kill us off permanently and I'm sure we will manage to make warp speed and terra forming (if only to appease the mighty god of sci-fi)

We're humans if we put a man on the moon then no pansy ass extinction event will hurt us. Eventually well be like the people of sand and slag (read it) at that point it will be impossible to knock us out

Whatever it is, we won't see it coming. If we know what's happening, some will find a way to survive.

crazy person(s) with nukes
or a virus (either engineered or undiscovered)

though I think some people would survive in shelters
something that could wipe us all out (meteor) isn't as likely (I think)

The chav population will flow across the world and drum out everything else. At this point, "humanity" will no longer exist.

A dark future awaits us. Maybe if we wait long enough they will wipe themselves out with inbreeding or take each other out.
Plus most of their women have that certain condition named after an azure toasted bread product...

I suppose if they start capturing human women, it's time to grab a shotgun and a pool cue and start hunting Yorkshire style? (northern chavs stole the yorkshire accent. >:O)

Providing there are breeding pairs, there will be humans for the rest of eternity. Even after genetic drift makes it impossible for whole populations to interbreed with other populations, they will all be human because that was what their ancestors were and you never truly stop being the same species your parents were.

Disease - Society will eventually become so locked-off from the enivronment that diseases are nearly impossible.

Nukes - Very possible, but humanity might just hold them back from eachother, because it's logic: if one uses a nuke, others will and it's inevitable, which is something everyone knows. And even then it won't make this world uninhabitable by humans, there will always be parts untouched by the fallout / radiation, no matter how impossible it seems.

Astroids - It won't be very long before our technology has risen to the point that even a comet of multiple miles in diameter will not be able to harm us; either by relocating the mass to another - less lethal - orbit, or simply blast it to pieces. At the moment; spotting it is harder than getting rid of it.

Our options?
I think that even now, humanity should work together on one huge project: building a space ship that can hold a population of tens of thousands of people and sustain them permanentely, or at least for thousands of years, to be sent in outerspace to explore nearby stars (which are still many, many generations away in even the fastest of space ships today).

over population I will be the root cause. Then leading to war and weapons of mass destruction. I don't think it will be a huge armageddon type scenario with nukes detroying the world but it will be a factor.
