We probably will create the new ecosystems. Terreforming. IMO, though, I think that there will be no end to the world...at least not the planet earth.
I think that humans are eventually going to leave Earth for greener pastures, giving the planet time to heal itself and get back to normal. While we humans roam the galaxy, increasing our real-estate and making smart planets that have societies that are in tune with their new surroundings and don't fuck up the new planets too badly. I hope to be on one of those first colonization missions to an earthlike planet.
