The U.S. would probably draft assloads of people in to fight an unwinnable war with the zombies. Until they realize they can't win the war, so they get in their secret CIA vaults, and nuke every city in the country, vaporizing all of it's citizens.

As the president and his agents arise from the secretive hidey-holes, they realize they have only strengthened the zombie horde, and now they have Super-Mutants and Ghouls to worry about as well.

If there are any confirmed reports anywhere, within minutes there will be an army of nerds, geeks and gamers, all with baseball bats, katanas, shotguns, and many, many copies of World War Z and the Zombie Survival Handbook by Max Brooks. Despite what all the movies say, I am pretty sure the government would probably go all out and send a freaking army to wherever the infection is, declare martial law, and enlist all the able bodied civilians in the area to help cleanse the infection. And of course,

I am an Irish man, so it would probably shoot down all zombies in Ireland, and have a pint, being the first zombie free nation in less then 14 minutes.

2 things, first, I think Luxemburg would beat you to it, I think the place is just a capital building and a taco stand... Second, Global government response would be as follows..*clears throat*

At least here in America we would probably lose one entire coast. But the zombie hoard would be stopped by carpet bombing as they shambled across the plains. It's just too far a walk for them too without brains to munch on.

Of course if we are talking magical zombies from the dead Z-day.. well then nothing can stop them.

The government would shit the bed. The nerds would prevail because we not only would know a zombie the second we saw it but we have had extensive training in surviving the zombie Apocalypse and know what friends of ours will be the best to team up with.

Then, once it was too late, I'm thinking evacuation to the oceans to wait the zombies out...or just to rebuild civilization on the sea and, thus, wait the zombies out.
