I don't want to see anything continuing Mass Effect. There are just too many variables to how the game ended that anything done would probably accidentally make something canon. Hell, it would be a nightmare to make one game that left the possibility open for all 3 ending choices. A control ending looks different from a synthesis ending which both still look different from a destroy ending. You think your choices are invalidated now, wait until a sequel happens that says one choice was the only one that happened.
There is still enough stuff to do in the past. They could so something with a spectre or c-sec officer investigating one smaller incident. Go micro-scale. Don't have the game focused on big intergalactic war, but focus on one character's journey. They could also go back and do something with the Protheans (how or what I'm not sure, but there is room there).

I actually really want the next installment to be a much more personal story. The Mass Effect universe just seems absolutely PERFECT for a revenge story. Maybe we can play as a Drell or Turion as they chase the person who killed their family across the galaxy. Sure it's not an original story, but I think the style of the universe could add some serious flavor to how it all plays out, especially if they take us through more places like Omega.

Honestly, telling a good story isn't about upping the stakes. Just look at Doctor Who, where at the last count we saved all of the timeline of all of the times in all of the universes in the dimensions of existence. Or something. Even ME1, for example - it's not like it was incredibly boring right up until you learned that the whole galaxy was at risk.

I'd just like a good plot with good characters set in the awesome universe they created... and then, oh wait, destroyed in the ending of ME3. Like one of the dev videos said in the lead up to 2, it's not Mass Effect without the Citadel. Or the relays or the council or the alien empires, either.

But they could do a prequel! Nothing like reading a story where you already know that all the characters just get killed when the Reapers move the Citadel, as I believe one writer tweeted...

I believe most of the outrage associated with the ending of Mass Effect 3 is that they made it impossible to make any more games in that universe.

What would Star Trek be without Warp Drive?
What would Star Wars be without The Force?

Mass Effect 3 shot itself in the foot by destroying the Mass Relays and stranding everyone important in the galaxy in orbit around Earth.

Mass Effect 3 is as big a disappointment as Godfather 3 or Star Wars 1-3 ... we wish it never happened, but now that it has the only thing that's left is prequels and tangents.
They
Can
Just
Make
More
Relays

seriously, nothing about the Me3 ending prevent future relays from being built.

It is literally nothing like completely removing the force or warp drives from Star Wars and Star Trek.
I suppose recreating a vast intra-galactic network of hyper technologically advanced relays without a surviving example, which have not ONCE been replicated in the 50,000 years of recorded galactic civilization using materials found only on a post-apocalyptic Earth while maintaining the crew and a majority of the ships of all the major races of the galaxy now stranded in orbit, while being unable to communicate, collaborate, trade or strategize with any other established civilization is easier than it sounds.

Mario wakes up in a cold sweat, it was all a dream, and the princess has been captured by Bowser again and you must save her.
