Meh.

Do not want. Do not care. Get the fuck outta my way, or the lightning will be going into your arse instead of coming out of it.

I think it would help with the boredom factor Bethesda games seem to give you.

Before ANYTHING, they need to fix that terrible combat though, otherwise it will just be a game that still plays like shit. (but you can do it with your friend now)
I agree on the combat part they fucking just need to get another engine that has good physics euphoria or something like that

Wait, I thought this was a new engine for Skyrim ?

Oh, that was just the Toddler feeding us BS again.
they took gamebyro and scrapped and changed most of (80%) so it is mostly a new engine but there are better engines out there like unreal or cryengine

While I admit it certainly would have its draws to play with other friends of mine. I don't think any of them take the immersion as seriously as I do. I roleplay a lot when I am playing, and also, the case of mods would come up.
You'd have to match your mods with the other person, which would be a nightmare for any kind of "pick up and go" style multiplayer.
In the end, I think it isn't worth the work. I'd rather explore the world on my own.
What I WOULD like them to do is work on improving the animation system in the game to something that is far more realistic. I also would like to see at least my arms and legs in first person too so I feel more like a person and less like a floating camera.

The first though I had with Skyrim was, after playing some of it, "Man, this game would be perfect if I could fight alongside some friends. Why bother putting in spells that heal other people if you can't form a party?"

Then again, I guess I'm one of those shallow, crazy people who enjoys mulitplayer over singleplayer most of the time. Portal 2 being one of the few games where I had an equal amount of fun in both single player and multiplayer.

I don't see anything of substance that it could add. The main draw of TES is the vast majestic landscapes that draw you into them, having other people running around and swinging their swords like mad men wouldn't quite line up with that.

I would not be using it if they did.

I have around 230 mods that I would need to fuck around with to sync up with someone else to what they had.

Plus I hate, hate and did I mention hate .... multiplayer games.

I'm a single player gamer. I play to relax on my own away from others so keep them the fuck out of my game.

Generally I think multiplayer experiences only work if they're fun. "Immersion" and MAJESTIC landscapes don't fit tonally with a game that is played socially.
I can see it now. The beautiful, snow-capped mountains in the distance; the rolling grasslands all around you; the wildlife acting as if you don't even exist... and your buddy, tea bagging the dead body of the bandit they just killed.

OT: While I do kind of want this to happen, I don't see it working out very well. There are too many factors that could just make the game suck. First example being loot. Would you have to share the loot or would each person get their own?(if you have to share then I can already see all the douche bags who would charge into a dungeon, take all the loot, and run out leaving you with nothing but a dungeon full really pissed off enemies) Second example would be the dialog options. Would only the host be able to talk to people to make quest related decisions(which would probably be the better idea) or would both players get options?

I really don't see co-op working very well for the Elder Scrolls games, however, I think that it might be a more plausible idea if it were done in the Fallout series.

I'm okay with The Elder Scrolls Online game, as in it is a multiplayer game, being made by a different team that does the single player TES games. I want my real TES games to be designed for one player, and one player only. The other team can mock-up ESO in peace, because it isn't so directly story related to the single player TES games, and is in fact kind of a whole other TES genre, because the game world is set somewhere way before the Oblivion Crisis i think.

Nahh. I would really like to see a decent local co-op game come out though. It seems as though devs and publishers have just forgetton about it. If Skyrim had co-op, it'll probably be even easier and people will just muck about with it (I would.) and we'll probably see another rush of Skyrim LPs on Youtube, but now with co-op! Which is really not needed, there are enough as it is.

Hundredth post, yay!

I'd be totally for it. I have one really good friend I always rely on for co-op so it's not like I would be playing with a stranger. Putting aside how this would even work in the Skyrim setting, I think it would be a lot of fun.

Ramp up the difficulty, and you can have some pretty sweet teams setting ambushes and clearing dungeons.

Oh god, do we need to taint another perfectly good single player series with multiplayer? I'm not saying multiplayer is bad, or that multiplayer focused games are bad, but single and multiplayer experiences are completely different. Publishers are cramming multiplayer into all sorts of games that never needed them because A. it's an easy way to make a few extra bucks off of multiplayer enthusiasts and B. They think it's the only way to extend the time we hold onto the game for and combat used game sales. Seriously, now even God of War has jumped on the bandwagon. People say that adding a multiplayer doesn't affect the single player, but they are lying. Enourmous amounts of money and time are spent on making even relatively simple multiplayer, so don't pretend that doesn't take away in some way from the amount of money and time they invest in the single player. Just have games that are single player stay single player, and games that are multiplayer stay multiplayer.

Well I don't really care, since if I don't feel like using it I just won't, but if I find a person that I can play in such a game that doesn't mind checking every single thing and can stand the fact that I have to rob everyone blind, sure I'd do it, but yeah the game is a little too slow paced work well as a co-op, or at least I find that the best co-ops tend to be fast paced, kind of reminds me of how frustrating Splinter Cell co-op was because the person I was playing with did not match my perfectionist "we have to do this without getting caught once, and without killing anybody because that takes points away", but all he wanted to do was shoot people in the head and cut they're throats, what I'm saying is that it's a game that to enjoy a co-op you really have to find someone that compliments you're style or has a similar one, because otherwise it's just going to be frustrating.

I love how the same handful of posters can't help but post their redundant feelings on every single ES thread that pops up.

OT: I've sort of come around to the idea of running around Skyrim with some split-screen action. It could be fun in a very archaic and hectic way.

I think we'll see acouple responses here.
People who are originalists and don't want to see TES change
People who realise that the dungeons are really not built for more than one person at a time.
And people who see how the game has campanions and thinks that co-op wouldn't be a huge leap.

Personally, I think co-op would be fun, but not that practical and there wouldn't be too much challenge left either.

*reads topic title*

So-o-o, they should stay away from topics that explicitly asks them about their feelings?

I was a big advocate for the addition of co-operational aspects to most single-player games.

Then, I saw how content creators envisioned co-operational content. The addition of coop to a game usually means the whole game is designed around that feature, or that a large portion of the game is changed so coop is appropriate.

Instead of simply creating more enemies or making encounters become more difficult like in previous years, coop becomes more a gimmick and tends to affect the quality of the rest of the game.

Basically, if I thought Bethesda would simply add the possibility for another person to share in the adventure with you, without altering anything.. I'd be okay with that. It'd probably be a lot of fun too! (Close friends experiencing Elder Scrolls with you would extend the replay value greatly in my opinion.)

The fear is that they'll go farther than this, and it'll take away from the rest of the game.

TL;DR

Coop that is simply another player is fine, anything else means a different game or less focus/money on single player.
