They need to hurry up and release the next set of consoles. At the moment companies are struggling to bring out better games as they have to create them with old hardware. They have all these talks about how they wish to create all this weird stuff however all I want is some bloody updated hardware so the game developers can create some better stuff. Don't let the console create the gaming, let the game developers do it!
I really hope you are kidding because by that statement you just stove-piped your definition of a better game as a game that has better graphics than others. Developers need to stop worrying about how to make their games look photo realistic and get back to trying to figure out how to make a fun, original and unique experience.

If this whole 'arms-race' would even just slow down for a year the industry would be much better off.

I'd want to see what they were coming out with before I decided to upgrade my consoles. If it were just a case of slightly more polish then I wouldn't bother, but if it was something that couldn't be done on my PS3 then I'd have to consider it.

What in the world can a new generation of consoles bring? I mean aside from making it even harder for developers to make games that utilize the systems for less than a king's ransom. The graphics can hardly get more realistic than they are now. HiDef? No, they've all already got it. The ability to have millions of objects on screen... no, had that for years. There is literally nothing a new generation of consoles can bring except for heartache.

If you ask me the next console generation is likely going to be Nintendo vs Nintendo. With the WiiU they will have 4 active consoles: The DS, the 3DS, the Wii and the WiiU, and 2 of them are going to be seen as derivatives of the other two. Unless Microsoft can get their act together with the Kinect I don't see the current generation has any hope. A new console would only be a lead weight in a sinking ship.

Angry. Both systems still have plenty of life left in them, and graphics really can't get much better. Or rather, graphics have hit the point where they should no longer matter. Plus, both systems cost a small fortune when they first came out. I shudder to think what the price tags will be on these new systems. I mean, we have handhelds that cost as much as a full system now. That is not a good sign.

If Microsoft and Sony put out new consoles in the near future, they will just end up being exactly the same as the current gen but slightly more powerful
Not slightly. Take a look at the specs of PCs 7 years ago and compare to now. It would be that kind of step up.

Well even if Sony and Microsoft debut new consoles at E3 next year those consoles still won't be available on the market until at least 2013. At that point the xbox 360 will be 9 years old and the PS3 will be 8, and it'll have been the longest console generation to date.

In 2 years the xbox 360 and the PS3 will be SOO outdated that I doubt many people will have much of a problem buying a new one. Hell, many people I know already want a new console generation because of how behind the times the xbox 360 and PS3 ALREADY are. The hardware they run was already outdated 3 years ago.

Even if the graphics don't matter having more powerful consoles will allow games to have better draw distances, higher framerates, better AI, more enemies on screen at once, etc.

Seriously, imagine playing Red Dead Redemption or Fallout 3 will absolutely no texture pop-in when you're traversing their massive worlds. That's what having more powerful consoles would allow game developers to do even if they don't necessarily make the "graphics" better.

Not optimistic about the next generation.
Nintendo are making (another) bad decision.
We all know that MS and Sony aren't going to try something new and interesting other than have another great big "my system specs are much bigger than yours" fight. Which won't be new. Probably won't be interesting either.

And if the prices keep heading in the same direction, the "Console-Supremecists" won't be able to claim that their gaming medium is cheaper anymore, which is the only thing i look forward to.

I personally don't feel in the need of a new console generation, but I can tell they at times, especially the 360 struggles with certain games. (not to mention all the games that comes out on several discs, and in some cases in addition to that down scaled from HD.) I'm not at all saying the PS3 don't, but let's face it; it's a year younger, and a year further developed in terms of components than the 360.
These small issues aside, new consoles don't yet feel like a necessity. The technological advances is not by any means a large factor to my criticism and ruined experiences of today's games, and there is a lot developers should consider above it.
Nevertheless when a new generation is set on the calendar, I will probably set of the necessary money to get one (probably the Playstation, as it being the most suitable for me).

Never buy the new console the first year.
They like to do this thing called breaking down.
The first PS3's had a few problems and the xbox 360 had the wonderful red ring of death.
The wii's motions controls just don't work, both then and now.

Too soon. Two years from now maybe, but they need adequate time to pump out some decent launch games, else it's an entirely empty gesture.
