Maybe it is nostalgia I don't know, and I'm not opposed to them adding new pokemon, all I ask is that they are new and actually interesting. The ones from sapphire [I can't name any from diamond onwards, as I didn't play them], but some of the third gens were so ridiculous. Nosepass, really? And the exploud line and makuhita. Those were some of the ones that weren't just older ones with a reskin and new name.
To highlight this, I just noticed there is a new [possibly 4th gen?]fish pokemon that is useless, but at a certain level [Let's take a blind guess at 20] it evolves into an uber dragon type. That sounds familiar...
Feebas evolves into Milotic after you max it's beauty stat and level it. In my mind, that is a hell of a lot different than Magikarp and Gyarados. I think you're looking too hard for comparisons. Right now, your mindset is like those who hate the Inheritance trilogy (Eragon and the like) because the plot is similar to Star Wars.

Your going to get things that are similar to other things when trying to come up with new ideas. Besides, some things work. Fuck, just look at the games themselves. The basic premise hasn't changed yet. Why? Because it works. People liked the fact that Gyarados evolved from this seemingly useless pokémon so they decided to try that again, but tweak it a bit. It's fucking hard to max the beauty stat. Not to mention that it is fucking hard to find a goddamn Feebas. I'll let you in on how to do it. There is a large lake in the game where you can find them. However, every day, you can only find them on four tiles in the entire lake, and even then you have a small percent chance to fish one of the fuckers up.

Thats a bit different than finding a Magikarp via the old rod.

But I'm biting down pride and giving Black and White a chance, but this is getting way of topic and I will defend this corner rabidly.
You're going to hate it. I'm telling you this now. You do realize that you cannot catch, see, or trade any of the pokémon from the first four generations until after you finish the Elite Four and obtain the National Dex (via filling out your Unova dex).

Anyways, what about a game based on the first movie? You get invited to an island only to find it's run by a crazed pokemon who's cloned his own army and you gotta stop him by searching the island etc. Could end up a bit too grim for a pokemon game though.
Again, why change what works so damn well? Pokémon is the second highest-grossing game franchise of all time. And that is just with the games. Not even including the anime, the card games, and all the rest of the pokécraze merchandise that is out there.

But, if you look at it, most of the profit is off of the main games alone. The spinoffs like Ranger and Mystery Dungeon, while good games, didn't sell anywhere near what the main franchise has.

I firmly stick with the "don't change it until they stop buying it" method, which is what the CoD franchise is doing and what the Madden franchise is doing (hell, all the sports games are).

Probably do what they did in G/S/C. Add in new Pokemon and a new area while keeping pratically all the old Pokemon and old area to play with as well. I've only just started playing some of the later generations and some of the stuff they added was interesting like double battles or natures. I'm on the fence about whether the older Pokemon were better as it is true that Pokemon now a days seem to be gaining a slightly different aesthetic (they look a bit "busier" if you know what I mean) and part of the reason I don't have much of a problem with the first ~250 Pokemon is that I view them with some nostalgia, at the same time some of the newer Pokemon do seem to be getting a bit ridiculous (and ice cream Pokemon, seriously?) or are just "rehashes" on an older Pokemon (oh look, Wurmble, a little caterpillar like Pokemon that evolves into a cocoon and then a butterfly, where have I seen that before?).

I can see why they would limit the areas and number of Pokemon in each new game though. Could you imagine them trying to add ever ~600 some Pokemon and all 5 (or is it 6) areas into one game? And make it not seem rushed in or spread too thin? Still I like G/S/C with it's double areas. You clear all the gyms in one and then get to go back with new Pokemon and beat the ones from last game.

The one major change I would make would be the battles. I would make them like Smash Bros. Using a GC controller, set your 4 special moves to the C-stick, make A and B basic attacks like tackle or scratch, L/R as block and so on. Also have an option to do it the more RPG way, for those want it that way. I always wanted that. I like Pokemon, but I can't play it since Red because of the battle system. I overplayed it, now it drives me crazy.
I never understood how they could forget how to scratch or tackle.
Well, I came into this thread unsure of what I'd find. I found awesome, in the Pokémon/Smash Bros. crossover.

More Eeveelutions. Everyone loves Eeveelutions.
I don't.
I loved the first three, went ''oke'' at the following two, and now it's getting stupid.
In my opinion.

OT: I'd give Scyther the ability to fly. also I believe Psychics should be very rare and extremely hard to obtain. Because in the Anime they are basically gods.

The story I don't know.
But it will involve more regions with less pokemon.
Also you can trade with any pokemon game ever.

Would have done exactly what they did. There is nothing wrong with any of the Pokémon games at all. The only thing wrong with the franchise are the nostalgic fans who can't see that their arguments against the new Pokémon don't work.

150 of the same things over five generations of games? Mhm. Try and tell me you wouldn't get bored with that. Especially seeing that Gen 1 had some of the stupidest designs of all.
They had stupid, but on the stupid scale (yes there is one) they aren't even close to...

Buffaron...

And Tauros was any different? What about Diglett and Dugtrio? Exeggcute?

You rank this thing as low on your stupid scale, when the ones I just listed are absolutely retarded design-wise.

For me, gold/silver were fine, so I would have kept those mostly as-is. To be honest, I've really enjoyed all of the games, but I do think the formula is getting a bit stagnant. I'd have liked to see a change to the whole "Get five badges, beat the villains, get the other three badges, beat the Elite Four/champ" formula. Or perhaps we could see gyms that are based on strategies instead of types.

Also, I'd like each town to have more story to it. I don't really like how many towns only seem to exist as locations for gyms. In Dragon Quest 9, arriving at a new town/location means you'll have to talk to people and find out what the local issue is before you can go and solve it. I'd like it if more towns in Pokemon functioned like that. There are a few in each game that do, but I would have done it with most, if not all of them.

Also, I would have had a female Pokemon professor, villain team that wants to free Pokemon instead of capturing them, and a gym that changes types based on the starter you pick.

Wait...

You wanna tell me you've never seen a bunch of eggs turn into a walking coconut-tree?
That's just nature! now let me drown in nostalgia.

@Dash, I like the idea of proper pokemon fights, but it would allow flying pokemon to be really effective though, and what would a fish do?
Errr...uhhh...flop around? Well how do they fight in the show? I guess you'd have to be in an area near water to use a fish pokemon. That is pretty limited but still, how many fish pokemon do people use? As for flying, they'd have to land at some point, just shorten their flight time. Yeah I know there would have to be some balancing with that sort of thing, but the idea's still there.

Pokemón MMORPG.

I've said this for years, and I'm a bit suprised it hasn't happened yet, because everyone can see that pokemon is the PERFECT setting for a mmorpg.
It's so Nintendo/Game freak can still keep on making money releasing new versions every few years that loads of people will buy(myself included).

In the MMO world, these are called "expansion packs".

I think I'd probably do it exactly the same way as they did, with one exception: Continue the tradition Generation II began by allowing you to visit the previous game's region once you've become the champion of your region's Pokemon League. So yeah, after beating Hoenn, you unlock Johto, after beating Sinnoh, you unlock Hoenn, after beating Unova, you unlock Sinnoh, and so on, and so on, ad infinitum.

Possibly might release Pokemon: Rainbow at some point that includes all five generations and raises the level cap to, like, 300.

Tauros isn't much different, another comparison. At first I even checked to see if he's an evolution of it, but he isn't.
My point is, through these rose tinted glasses it's very hard to see that any energy has gone into some new ones. Yes I may hate White, but I'm going to go in there, finish the game and then make opinions. I'm not going to take any prejudice with me [I'm not even looking at what pokemon are included]

Also I have nothing against the, collect 8 badges, beat the elite 4 and catch them all, formula which has worked so well. But it's stagnant, other franchises like Cod or Halo are getting this complaint, why not pokemon? I want to see them add more depth to the world before they add more pokemon, it deserves that much.

Noticed your talking about the game formula... well, they did change it a bit, and its not as standard. Keep what your doing and ignore any news n stuff about it. I regret looking into black and white as it ruined some things that probably would have surprised me. Some stuff that was suggested here have been implemented in some way, or a portion of it.

Each generation has had ups and downs for designs. Some legendaries or higher tier pokemon tend to look laughable (Like that new dragon/ice pokemon), along with a bunch of the lower tier ones. I really think they should buff up some of the older pokemon and give them a boost to thier base stats as some pokemon seem to be getting more and more useless each generation, either because they lack flexibility, or something does what they do, but better (Like infernape completely outclassing blaiziken). Hopefully the dream world abilities can at least impact this in some way, but stats wise, it may not.

Ideally, it would be awsome for them to release some form of MMO for the pokemon series. I would also like to see the ability to customize your avatar, and the ability to visit all regions.

The underground and secret bases from generation 3 and 4 were amusing 'gimmicks' themselves.

The best part of Blue and Red were linking up with your friends to battle. Applied to a massive scale, finding pokemons, training them, going up against reigning champions of the server in a battle for glory and credits.... epic! It's the only game that would make me consider getting a Wii.
There have been a few indie attempts, but Nintendo shut them all down.

I think it they combined the games into a massive game it would work very well. So for instance you choose what region you're going to start in (Johto etc) and then your choice of 3 would be from those that were in the beginning of the game that did that region. So Johto would be (I think...) Totodile, Cyndaquil and chica-something?

The other idea which I would love and would cause me to get a DS would be if they took the idea above but rather than be limited to choice of fire/water/grass you get a choice of whatever pokemon (basic level - no evolved states...or super strong/rare) and then do your journey that way...Obviously to tie in with the region you would be limited to the 150 or whatever odd which are found there.

Basically I want a damn Sandshrew...I loved that little guy - I'm almost 22 and I still have a little model of him and Sandslash sitting by my TV ^.^
