Maybe give it lasers. Nothing can't be improved with lasers.
What about Alderaan?
0 BBY, NEVER FORGET!
The "lasers" in Star Wars just... aren't. Period. And anyway, some people think Alderaan post-destruction was an improvement.
Hoh boy, you don't wanna start a Star Wars argument with me. Trust me.

Add a list of infractions and reasons for them to the bar. That reenforces the reason why you were punished.
Actually, I kinda like this one. Reasons seem like a... reasonable addon.
Was it trolling?
Was it posting low-content?
Was it naming the-program-that-shall-not-be-named?

Uhm... Yes. From what I understand, your forum health bar is reset after a set amount of months without incidence, actually.
So there.
[HEADING=3]Amnesty[/HEADING]
After every 6 months without any warnings, you will drop down one level on the Forum Health Meter. After 2 years without any warnings, your meter will be returned to 0, regardless of where it was before.

These adjustments don't apply to any users that have been permanently banned, and they don't remove the history that the moderators can see on your account. Anyone that is seen "gaming the system" will be held accountable for it.
There's not really anything I would change.
how many months, though?

Since it kind of limits my duties and choice in the matter of modding, I'd like to go back to the old system. It makes me feel less needed :(
But it's not that bad. People, complaining will get you nowhere.
If you have any questions, you can quote or PM me.

I was kind of surprised that I lost a block by merely mentioning that I used a certain application to prevent certain things from showing up on my screen in a topic concerning certain things showing up on a certain website you guys might spend a lot of time on.
Thats because that certain application that stopped...

Fuck it, you were using an adblock weren't you? Guess what the escapist uses to get income. Thats right, ads.
I can neither deny or confirm that ;p

Dude...
It's right there.

Every six months, you'll drop a level, after two years all your incidents are erased.

So, in other words, the one warning I EVER had around here will vanish at some point. Nice.

Incidentally though, I'd add gin and tonic.

Well, ideally I'd get rid of it altogether, but failing that, I'd say that it shouldn't count offences made before it's implementation. I haven't had a single warning since it was added, yet my bar is down to half.
That might be fine for people who haven't got much of a history, but what about those who have had half a dozen suspensions, several probations and a lot of warnings? If we were to wipe your record, would we not be obliged to wipe theirs?

Can't do that. Equity. Otherwise wealthy users would be able to be really horrible and simply pay for that to be ignored while people who aren't able to spend the money have to put up with it. It also disadvantages anyone who doesn't have access to online payment methods, primarily credit cards. Doesn't sound too good to me.

Yes. Yes I suppose so.

...

Go on?

Though I imagine someone with that kind of record would have been banned already, so the question is moot, really.

I would've liked to regain a bit of health when it came in, since now if I do something wrong it's a suspension.

It's a bit extreme. I can't help but think I'll end up being banned because of "low content" because my posts are succinct.

In all honesty, I don't think the Forum Health Bar has much of an impact. People will still post how they will because it's who they are. I will say that it is a good deterrent for repeat offenders, seeing the quality of posts going up.

Also, I will say that it is still very hard to take anyone on the site seriously. Truth be told, I like to see the faces of people now and then. I'm a guy who likes a voice to a name and face. People don't come with health bars.

Or Red Buttons.

I'm not sure what else you would like me to add. As mods we always look at a user's history when moderating them, this new system is just an automated, uniform method of doing so which is more lenient than we tended to be as people.

I know a lot of people here aren't very pleased with the forum health bar. But instead of complaining about it, what do you think could be done to improve it?

Apparently, there is an Amnesty system in place to regain health. My bad for not doing my homework. Thanks to Jonluw for pointing it out.

Also, I would have had the health bar begin taking points off after it became implemented. Right now, I am being held accountable for a couple of infractions from nearly a year ago. I'm not a fan of the retroactive punishment. That would be the same as not receiving the clean slate from your juvenile record upon becoming an adult. You might have learned your lesson, but the health bar doesn't care.

What would you do to improve the health bar?
As you must be of consenting age to use these forums, I'm wondering why you feel that you shouldn't be held accountable for your actions prior to the implementation of the new health bar system? The bar is merely a newer and more accurate reflection of your participation in this community. The Code of Conduct is clearly posted. Yes, at times moderators may judge you too harshly for a turn of phrase. However, you should keep in mind that posts are flagged as inappropriate almost wholly by other users. Furthermore you are always welcome to appeal a decision handed down by a potentially heavy handed mod.

I got a warning for posting a video in a share youtube video's thread. apparently I wouldn't have gotten one if I had wrote 'this is a video I find funny' before posting the video.

Honestly 6 months seems very very high to lower one warning level. I mean, thats half a year.. some people live only 50 of those. A single month clean seems more fair for a warning level.

Yeah but I don't know about others but sometimes I'm paranoid that someone will report my comment just because they don't like my thoughts on the matter (Like all these PC vs Console topics or X vs Y topics). Someone could just not like what you say and report it and it could have been not against the rules. Kinda like on X-Box Live where if enough people report someone's name is offensive that person has to change is gamer tag name (i don't know if they do this now).

Well it's a bit confusing for one, fuller is worse in this case somehow.
But for once I wouldn't mind that 5 second regeneration, just hasto be in reverse...

I think it's fine, though I do agree with the minor point that if it is indeed a "health meter", then it would make more sense for it to begin full and deplete as infractions build up, rather than starting empty and filling as it does now. That and perhaps six months does seem a little harsh for a warning (though fine for a suspension or something). Aside from that, I think it's a good idea.
