Personally I'd like (and secretely plan) to be frozen (which is technically dying), until there is a cure against dieing of old age. Then I hope to live as long as possible until entropy finally gets me.

aha! but heres some philosophy for you! how do you know that, while youre frozen, youre mind wont just die and, when restored, your body and brain will re-boot creating an enirely new life form with all your memories. you would be dead but no one would ever know, not even "you"

This is the reason, why I wouldn't use a teleporter (just in theory), as it would just transfer my shape, not myself. But it is the same brain we are talking about.
Even if you are right, then there is really no way to escape death and it was worth a try.

yeah, same with me (about the teleporter) and the trouble with testing this problem is that it cant be tested! once youre teleported, nobody will know any different from the original you. the only way to ever be sure that teleports are conciousness safe is to try it yourself, and then you either eliminate all your travel problems or join all the other poor suckers in digital limbo

It can be tested, but just for me (just in theory, because one option is that I ceased to exist)! If my mind survives, I will know it. A replica of myself would also believe to be. In both ways there will be Timotheus claiming that it had worked, but he won't waste time arguing, because he knows about the problem.

The question as to whether it really works is the question of what a mind really is and in what way it depends on your brain and its processes (is it definded by the state or the activity of your brain?). But that goes far beyond the topic of this threat.

This may sound odd but i always wanted to die failing to stop some sort of evil. Like say an ancient evil rises that threatens to destroy the world and im the only one who can stop it. And when i go to stop it i die in a fight that kills me but leaves the evil to destroy the world. I know this is pretty weird but its just how i want to die
