How would you think humans would react to aliens coming into their Society?

I just recently finished watching District 9. The aliens were not what we hoped, being ugle as fuck. But it turns out that the bastards and pricks are really the humans. SO this got me thinking...


Note: the Aliens are coming based on their own free will. They can also leave if they want. Their technology is just as advanced as ours.

If a race of aliens came to life on Earth, how would Humans react?

In my opinion, I think our first instinct would be to exterminate,enslave, or shun them, as we all know people tend to dislike things they simply don't understand or what isn't familiar to them.

Considering how well we humans get along with each other, I say it'll be less than 5 mins into the first contact that some twat decides killing the aliens would be a really good idea...

Depends where they land... District 9 is fairly accurate for Africa in general, aside from the ones that constantly undergo civil war, that'd be one hell of a bloodbath.

In the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe and the United Kingdom they probably would be treated like immigrants were during the early 1900's, possibly segregated but nothing quite extreme as District 9.

Russia would probably welcome them with open arms. Not sure why I feel that way, just do.

Japan would kill them all off, China would eat them... so would a lot of the Asian Countries.

Now come the less likely assumptions...

Middle East would stone them to death or treat them with respect depending upon just how - for lack of a better word - democratic they are.

Greenland should have plenty of space, probably no issues there. Iceland I have no idea.

Places like Norway will probably be respectful, till an incident happens.

That's how I see it anyways. Oh, and The United Nations would probably just sanction them for no real reason and the aliens will probably just laugh at their faces.

I think we wouldn't be as surprised as people in most movies since probably most of us gotten use to the idea of aliens existing as a possibility. We would probably be all over the place with how we treat them though. Some of us would treat them like terrorists maybe, some like saints, and maybe some people would just ignore them.

They'd be an unknown, so the natural reaction would be one of fear in humanity.

If something could land here their technology would be centuries ahead of ours, meaning if they're like us, we'd have no chance in battle.

I love foreign things. I'd welcome them friendly, but there are obsticles.

*How will we communicate?
*If we have a welcome party, will they mistake the crowd for an angry mob?
*Will they eat the stuff in the welcome baskets?
*Are flowers & handshakes universally peacefull, or will they take it as an insult?
*Will we quickly fall victim to eachother's contagious illnesses?

This is what I also think the human race would do. I'm a little more inclined to think that we will just kill all of them off.

I hope people work on communication, not defense.

And if one turns up at my front door, I'd probably do what I always do when people come to visit that I'm not used to: go through the cupboards for something they'd like to eat. We'd make friends over Spam straight out of the tin!

We haven't overcome xenophobia (fear of foreigners/racism) yet. Neilasparophobia is a little more entrenched.

Humanity needs to grow up :/
