...If the Escapist never existed?

Pretty simple question, yes? I imagine the change wouldn't be very significant for a lot of you, but nevertheless, I'm interested in seeing what comes up.

I wouldn't have started writing film reviews, which has taken up a significant amount of time in the last three years. That will, fingers crossed, lead to a job in the (near?) future.

I also wouldn't have met a bunch of nice people or dealt with a bunch of not so nice people (almost all of whom are no longer here, funnily enough).

Easy. /b/

Rule one: Never talk about /b/

Hm... well, maybe... Tumblr?

Rule 34: If it exists, there is a porn version of it.

Damnit.

Tv tropes?

Well, I'd have gotten the time back that I've spent typing over 19000 posts around here...

And watching Zero Punctuation, Jim & Yahtzee, Jimquisition, The Big Picture, MovieBob, LoadingReadyRun, Feed Dump, and Unskippable every week...

I also likely wouldn't have heard of some of the awesome bands I listen to, played some of the awesome games I love now, read some of the awesome authors, and just in general probably wouldn't be quite so in-tune with the current 'geek' culture since this is the only forum of this type I regularly visit and my opinion of most others ranges from pretty low to "You can't spell ignorant without IGN".

Not to say we don't have our own bad apples around here, but I'd either be a much lonelier or much more productive person if The Escapist weren't around to soak up my time.

I would likely still be braving the mind-withering tempest of xenophobia that is YouTube.

I am glad that I am not still doing that.

I doubt much would change about me if the Escapist never existed. The people ya wanna ask are those that work here.

I would never have encountered the Mass Effect 3 controversy and had my interest peaked enough to play the trilogy. That's really about it, I'm afraid.

I guess I would have become a G1 a lot sooner and...I dunno...would Jim be doing his Jimquisition thing over on Destructoid? I would have saved a ton of hours (if not days) worth of time posting on here...I'm curious to see a life-time post starting from my introduction just to see how long of a novel my drivel would fill up...

...I wonder where Zero Punctuation would live without The Escapist...

I probably wouldn't have joined my high school newspaper to write video game reviews, or else my reviews wouldn't have been anywhere near as well-written or funny without Yahtzee to draw inspiration from. Add to that the shear number of games, movies, and even books I love that I either wouldn't have known about or wouldn't have known to look into if I hadn't heard about them on this website, and I think it's safe to say that my life would have some pretty significant differences.

There would be a large hole in my social life and I certainly wouldn't know about as many amazing people as I do right now. I mean I guess I'd be getting gaming information elsewhere but it would be questionable if I would have joined another community like I have here. No regrets.

Uh... Let me think about it...

Well, I came for the Yahtzee after X-Play would advertise any new Zero Punctuation video... ended up finding out about other shows on the Escapist over the years... finally decided to join the forum last year, which lead to apparently helping a fellow Escapist member through a tough time without me realizing it, which in turn lead to me watching any of the Escapist videos in HD because of said Escapist member...

So, I guess I wouldn't be as well versed in gaming news post-G4 as I am now... or would not have made as many friends, according to my 3DS... or have gotten the courage to actually try being in a forum for once... Those three things, in particular, would not have happened if the Escapist never existed...

On the one hand I'd probably get more drawing done, seeing as the Escapist turns me into a lazy pig. On the other, I wouldn't have that geek outlet, to talk about stupid shit, movies, games, anime etc.

I wouldn't debate about things nearly as much as I should.

But on the other hand, I wouldn't get shit on nearly as much as I do.

Swings and roundabouts. I guess you could say that about nearly any site.

Curry wouldn't be my favourite food. I wouldn't have 3 siblings; only 1. May Day would no longer exist as a holiday. Sweden would invade France. I'd be much less sarcastic.

Honestly? Not much would change. I'd be less informed on games coming out so my PS3 collection would be much smaller. It's hard to guess if I'd be gaming as much in that case...

I'd probably be more a productive person.
That or I'd just find another site to waste my time on.

I wouldn't have met some really great people, they're probably the only thing that keeps me coming back here.

Well.. I wouldn't have gone to the UK Escapism events... which means I wouldn't know the awesome people I met there...

Also my game library would be smaller and less varied because I wouldn't see as much hype and stuff for games I wouldn't normally play.

....posting in another site maybe?
Before come here I was a frequently poster in GT Forums. But then sh*ts happens and change the whole god dammit Forum and I decided to leave.
So, yeah, doesn't change something. The Escapist site back then was just another site for alternative from GT. I glad for this decision I made to stick here :)

I would have watched Zero Punctuation somewhere else, and taken part in a different forum.

I would be getting so much more work done in college. Im typing this while im in college now and should be doing some more of my work but the Escapist distracts me.

Damn you Escapist! Damn you and your fun site with your interesting community and well moderated forums! *Shakes fist*
