Whelp, apparently I'm desperate enough that I'm willing to try out yet-another-bloody zombie game.

However, I notice that State of Decay on Steam is still advertised as being in an 'early access' state and, among other things, apparently requiring a 360 controller to play.

However-however, it's been up for a while now and I was wondering if things had changed since release. Is it playable with mouse and keyboard yet? Is it acceptably bug free?

There was supposed to be a patch this week that fixes any lingering problems with mouse and keyboard support, think I saw it posted on Reddit. Yes, found the link:

I had been avoiding it as I can't stand XBox controllers, mine is a Phillips PS3 knock off controller, which are apparently not supported. Looks pretty good, and I have heard nothing but good things about it, I will be picking it up myself as soon as I have some cash, along with Knock Knock and The Stanley Parable. Metro: Last Light Chronicles came out on the 15th so that will keep me busy till then.

You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.

Thanks for the info.

It has ton of minor bugs particularly in the vision sense. Game is playable but you will get incorrect icons and misinformation thats been there from the start. Doesnt mean much once you become familiar with the game but it can mess with you a little and will be a constant annoyance. Other than that my 2 playthroughs have been fairly stable. Your map may get cut off on the higher resolutions. IIRC there is mod for keyboard support but i would just wait.

Apparently when the DLC sandbox mode comes out for the 360 around the end of the month is when they're releasing an actual patch for the PC version.

Another zombie-esque game that is coming out next week is How to Survive, looks fun and i will probably be playing it with some buddies.

You cannot play with with a 16:10 resolution without things being cut off from the screen. You can change resolution to avoid the worst of it, but that normally leaves it looking a little squashed. This is apparently one of the first things they plan to fix.

Other than that the only problems I have had are minor notification ones, such as being told my resource stockpile is over the limit when it isn't. Although according to the replies I got when I mentioned it on the PC version forums, this is a bug on the console version as well.

It is certainly playable, at least from my experience.

I play with an Xbox controller and really enjoy it. I've beaten it once, restarted probably a half dozen times. I do really enjoy it. I'll switch to keyboard and mouse when it's officially patched as I can't shoot for shit with a controller, though.

However, everyone needs to keep in mind that this is a port f an XBox Live game, which means the game file is only 2 Gigs. So there are a lot of shortcuts and such. However, mods are coming fast and furious and Undead Labs are supporting them as best they can. Keyboard functionality mods have been added by the players, and should be in soon b the devs, too. The Toolkit will come, but we don't know when.

This game really is worth $20 now, and in a year or so with all the mods people are working on, will be a really, really good game.

How it is now? Well, I did take a couple sick days to play it when it came out... and I haven't done that in years. I'd also thrown my back out, though. But I played it for 4 days straight.

Just an update. The game has been patched for proper keyboard and mouse support now. You can currently do pretty much every clickable thing with a mouse, except containers, which are coming up soon.

They have also patched in 16:10 support.

It's still clunky as hell, even with the patch.

Everything technically works, but nothing works well. Still, I've managed to adapt.

The game itself is... meh. Not too bad I guess, but it mostly feels like Busywork: The Game - Zombie Edition

You don't seem to like anything so I am not sure what to make of this. For now I opted to just get Knock Knock! and The Stanley Parable. I will wait another patch or two before picking up State of Decay.
