Hey if you liked it then awesome for you.

I had a 2 year WoW addiction and I can honestly say 95% of the time it was some horrible grinding shit that I did not enjoy, I was simply compelled to keep pressing that button till a new goodie came.
There were some good moments, but I'm glad I got this leech off me.

I played WoW to keep in touch with my high school friends when I went to university. I don't regret that time at all.

Some people do pour too much life into MMO's or social games like Farmville, but that's a very small percentage. But sadly, to someone that isn't into games like that, they might paint us all with the same brush.

If you're ok with it that's all that really matters, just try to think about how you'll feel 10, 20, 30 years into the future.

Also World of Tanks is godamn killing me at the moment.

WoW is a masterpiece. I have played on and off since launch, and have both raided and PvPd extensively in all expansions. Every time I come back, it's different. There is SO MUCH in that game, both in terms of explicit content (quests, raids etc) and nuances to gameplay (spec and gear variants).

I think the problem with WoW is, as Yahtzee says, 100 percenters. Whenever I was/am playing WoW, I say is this fun? If no, then I stop. I don't care about abandoning groups, missing content, whatever. I enjoy the learning curve of wiping, I don't enjoy carrying scrubs. I generally loath professions, and as such usually don't bother, or only do them while I'm doing something else. I have never, in 7(?) years, leveled fishing or cooking, and only once leveled alchemy because it was kind of fun for a while but got old.

Most people who have their lives ruined by WoW are people who play way beyond the point of fun. People who rage in BGs or rage at groups or troll general. People who lament the lack of balance. Most of these people are either children or adults who lead empty lives. So you would ask if WoW is causing the problem, or is it a symptom of a larger dissatisfaction.

This is my own opinion, and Im not trying to diss it or anything, I played it and got all the expansions until the Lich king, BUT I played until level 21 and then I quit since I became REALLY bored, it was just so repetitive and I thought I could be playing something much more worth it.

I left it and dont care about it anymore, but thats because I prefer MMOs like Guild Wars and D&D online because it is more interactive and uses more team work.

I played til about Level 25 or 26 before becoming really bored. Takes way too long to get anywhere and too much Grinding. The prospect of exploring such a huge world was definitely the pull for me initially.

Generally though so long as you don't ignore responsibilities what you do in your free time is fine, for instance I'd much rather play a game than sit and watch TV which half the population probably does every night only it's just seen as more "socially acceptable" whereas playing games is probably much better for you mentally.

My name is Adam.

I also played WoW.

Played for a couple of years and gave up.

I've been clean for 14 months now.

Why does this seem like a WoWaholics anonymous thread.

Good on you, I loved WoW, even though I don't play it now. But I enjoyed almost every aspect of it. I am proud that this isn't another WoW hate thread.

I quit because once I hit level cap, I realized there wasn't anything fun for me to do, because WoW elitists are even snobbier when it comes to dungeon/raid grouping at the higher levels. And I realized all the boring-ass grinding I had done had been for not. I burnt out. And I quit. Haven't regretted that decision.

MMOs really do only exist to be a massive time suck. And I'm sorry, as a very driven high school senior who is trying to accomplish a lot this year, and get into some schools that are difficult to get into, I have better things to do with my time.

Probably a misquote but "time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time". I have to say I fully agree on this, I myself played WoW and grew bored of it, quitting on my own accord. Mind you when I was playing my life wasn't exactly the best, it was before I got my diagnosis and figured out why school was so incredibly hard for me.
I still game a lot, though most of my time is spent on drawing and other activities I enjoy. I don't think there's any shame in being a gamer, or nerd of any kind(unless you're a twitard) and I'll never understand people who are "closet" anythings. Stand up for yourself and your life, trust me, it feels better than constant worry someone will figure out you just spent four hours trying to beat that one boss on hardcore mode to get an annotation congratulating you on your achievement.

I played WOW and I still play MMO's with one personal rule: If I am not having fun regardless of the situation I stop playing. If I am in a dungeon or guild team I will usually wait for an appropriate time but I will stop playing before I have the chance to get truly aggravated.

In comment to the tedium of the grind of leveling up I never got bored with a combination of playing with real life and in-game friends, quests, pvp and crafting as well as trading schemes in the auction house.

After cataclysm released I played through some of the new content but as many of my friends have moved on so have I.

It is sad some people feel the need to put WOW down because their experience was poor but blizzard must be doing something right as it is easily the most popular MMORPG of all time. It is still the most accessable and polished I have played in all aspects of the game.
