New system to see if you're robot or human: Add in a large calculus problem, and if they solve it, they're robot. (leaving out the obligatory racial stereotype no matter how tempting it is)
I actually asked the staff about that, seems it's a legal requirement/loophole rather than a real content gate. It puts responsibility of viewing the content squarely on the user, if I recall correctly. Having a birthdate doesn't change the requirement(Might be because it's not mandatory/ might not be you viewing the content even though you're logged in).OlasDAlmighty said:I can't remember the last time I've dealt with human verification. Has it really gotten that bad? It's especially dumb on this site because I've actually included my birthdate in my profile info, yet I still have enter my birthday a second time to watch some episodes of the Jimquisition. What's the point in asking me for my birthday if you're not even going to use it for that?MeChaNiZ3D said:I'm more annoyed by the stupidity of most age verification. Not a single time has it ever stopped me from accessing content. Which is sort of the way I like it seeing as I don't think content should be restricted by age, but if we could all just realise that it is not an obstacle to anyone and just do away with it altogether, things would be much more convenient.
Until then I will continue to be 100 years old.
Yyyup, not only is it cheap and annoying, but it's not programmed right either!canadamus_prime said:What irritates me is when, here on the Escapist, the human verification fails to load then when I hit 'Post' I get "Hey you forgot to verify that you're human!"
The advertising ones are annoying too. If I have to see El Tabidor or the Telus Hippo one more time I'm going to have to hurt someone.FalloutJack said:Yyyup, not only is it cheap and annoying, but it's not programmed right either!canadamus_prime said:What irritates me is when, here on the Escapist, the human verification fails to load then when I hit 'Post' I get "Hey you forgot to verify that you're human!"
Well, they'll never stop because it generates ad revenue.FalloutJack said:No, but it's often enough to be annoying. I have 12,000 posts. Am I human yet?MorphingDragon said:Human verification is for scum that are too lazy to properly manage their own services. The content on the site has to be damn good or the verification to be relatively simple for me to actually deal with that shit.
Luckily the escapist comes under both and doesn't require it each time to post.
Not sure if captcha ads - which suck and don't work well - generate revenue for the site. Would like to hear from site rep on that.Weaver said:Well, they'll never stop because it generates ad revenue.FalloutJack said:No, but it's often enough to be annoying. I have 12,000 posts. note: I don't see the escapist getting money as bad, I'm just stating there's a reason beyond preventing spam![]()
I dunno, mine aren't even captachs most of the time. It's like advertisements from phone companies and I have to pick 1 of 5 options and it doesn't even matter what one I pick, it lets me post anyways. I'll screenshot if you're curiousFalloutJack said:Not sure if captcha ads - which suck and don't work well - generate revenue for the site. Curious. Isn't that a thing which allows the owner of the ad to be pinged by your choice so that he can throw things your way?Weaver said:Hmmm
It's hilarious how spambots keep targeting this thread. Almost as if they're deliberately rubbing in our faces just how useless the captcha is at keeping them out.sdfhsjzhuang said:the same with whatever game you tried to verify?
