Since the current escapist fad is on gender and species I think this is fitting.

Humans can' evolve, we have too many people with too many random genes able to breed. Even when inferior humans would die off, medical science saves them so they can breed and spread their stupid throughout humanity.

The only way Humanity will evolve to be stronger, faster, smarter etc is to force the World's best and brightest to breed in an enclosed environment for several generations until we have a race of better people that can spread their favourable genes through out the gene pool. We already know that this will work because we have thousands of years of practice on dogs so all we need is public approval which won't happen, why won't the public approval?

The public won't approve because ethics and morals are geting in the way of progress; progress which could be easily made if we stop letting people breed with who ever they want rather than who is best for humanity.

I post this knowing full well that I will be flamed/banned but just know that when you whine your loss of faith in humanity, it is because you don't support forced breeding.

Humans that live in isolation from the rest of us are evolving, The Bushmen in Africa for instance have evolved the ability to use stores of fat in there behind to survive in periods of drought or low game populations.

I definitely think that there are too many stupid people who are being allowed to reproduce. Safety measure have gotten so that the ones that would have died for being stupid are now kept alive. This destroys natural selection for humans. Nothing will ever be done about it though because doing so bears a slight resemblance to Hitler and his "Master Race".
So what you're saying is people who would have died from, say, heart cancer, are stupid? Hello people stupid is NOT a disease. There is no stupidity gene. Yes there is stuff like ADD and ADHD but it is not in the same category. Medical science helps people to have a chance to live when they're dealt the "terrible disease OMG" card. It's like you're labeling people with diseases are stupid for having that disease, which is arrogance. Oh you have brain cancer, so you're stupid. That's basically what you and the guy that started this thread are saying. And I find it insulting because my friend, who was very intelligent, made straight A's and the like, died from a cancer. So yeah.
I did Not say a single word about people dieing from diseases, did I. No. Your rant on me has absolutely nothing to do with what I said on the subject. Learn to read something before you flame it next time.

When biological evolution stops happening to an intelligent species it starts towards mental evolution. Ideas that can produce a strong following will propagate and spread, stamping out other ideas.
Oh wait, we discovered the nuke before we had any kind of condensing. We're dead sooner or later.

The brain evolving even more would be the worst thing possible for humanity. read a book called the Andromeda strain. Its talks of how inefficent the brain is and how greedy for the bodys energy it is. It makes a reference to humanity possibly becoming exctinct as ours brains become so engery hungry we can no longer support them with limited reasources in the future.

Yup, mankind is pretty much doomed for stagnation and extinction.
At least as long as christianity and socialism is around.
Again, let me point out that this is the time rapid mutations occur. When times are tough, mutations are normally killed off quite rapidly unless they are directly beneficial. Not sure what Christianity has to do with anything though.

Fact is, the human race is already too genetically similar for comfort, due to some unknown past near exctintion event....

Frankly, I think we should count ourselves lucky we've not ended up on the same route as the banana, who's crippling genetic stagnantion may well result in the end of banana's for human consumption - to quote wikipedia:

While in no danger of outright extinction, the most common edible banana cultivar 'Cavendish' (extremely popular in Europe and the Americas) could become unviable for large-scale cultivation in the next 10-20 years. Its predecessor 'Gros Michel', discovered in the 1820s, has already suffered this fate. Like almost all bananas, it lacks genetic diversity, which makes it vulnerable to diseases, which threaten both commercial cultivation and the small-scale subsistence farming.

you DID say stupid people dieing. People don't die from stupidity. So what else could you possibly mean? "would have died for being stupid are now kept alive" Since you can't die from stupidity, what disease can you die from? You refer to the medical science (indirectly) saving people with stuff like surgery. And you basically called those people stupid.

Who says that we will have limited resources in the future?

Once again, I did not say anything about diseases. You know what, I think that people can die from something other than diseases as well. Don't you think so too? How about a guy riding a motorcycle at 120 mph without a helmet. Don't you think that this would be considered stupid? I could go on with the different ways that people could die from being stupid but I really didn't think that I had to. I don't know where the fuck you came up with my saying stuff like people dieing from "heart cancer" was stupid.

Ok, probably already been said, but evoloution has been pretty muched stopped in the classic sense. A lot of species onyl survive today because they can live with humans. And advances in health care etc mean that anyone that would have died off (yes its harsh etc) will not have. Also the population is too large, i remeber reading that the population of humans should have stopped around the time it was as large as Glasgow.

Shoulda said that in your first post. Now who's flaming? Cause how am i supposed to know what you're talking about when you DONT say it. And then you fly off the handle with "Durr you're stupid and flaming because I didn't make clear what i meant to say in MY post"

Oh yes, and maybe it's because this thread is about DISEASES, MUTATIONS, and OTHER GENETIC DISORDERS that have to do with GENES and not CAR ACCIDENTS and other non-related-to-this-thread.

Diseases and human misfortune could be seen as just "sub wars" lost within the context of evolution, but as already said, even perceived human flaws and physical/psychological "deficits" could prove advantageous in the looooooong run of evolution.

Genes and other dispositions works in a ecosystem within a human contex in phylogenic sense so there are certainly no clear boundaries, as such the social sphere as well as human behavior is not isolated.

IT's a long shot but I'm thinking, the smarter people are having less children, while the chavs etc are popping em out by the truckload, now combine this with the natural rebellion of children against their parent's lifestyle choices.

We could be heading for a whole generation of education hungry, polite, well mannered people with a strong work ethic who want to help others.

Now there's a bright thought for our future!

I actually did something similar in an assignment for English class. You had to make a future city, so I decided to put all of the intelligent people in it.
Also, I made it fly.
Personally, I don't care much for breeding, especially forced. I'd rather read a book than have sex, but otherwise, I guess it's not a bad idea.
I lost faith in humanity when I was five, though, and not because of a lack of forced breeding.

Natural selection is the idea that the unfit are killed off before breeding age. This isn't true for humans anymore.

In fact, smarter more educated people are more likely to have kids later in life if at all.
They also have a tendency to have less kids than uneducated hicks, for whatever reason.
I win, never had faith in humanity.

I disagree! you have made some very solid points here but you didn't think of that we even though the weak of us survive always envolve to survive better in the climate we live in. so humans living in cold places will envolve to survive that while people living in the dessert will go the other way around!

Humanity is evolving. The average height two hundred years ago was a lot smaller then the standard height today.

Survival of the Fittest is gone (for now...) but that doesn't mean we are not changing as a species.
That isn't evolution, thats just better dieting and medicine.
200 years is nothing in the grand scheme of evoltuion

Edit. I dont believe humans will evole physicly anymore, But not for the reason OP said. I believe its because we no longer have to adapt to our enviroment. We change our enviroment to suit us.

Define what direction you think humans should evolve in and then decide whether or not natural selection through physical prowess is the best way to achieve that goal.

EDIT: if you control breed the population on a massive scale, that is not natural selection/evolution. All that is is some dickheads avoiding natural selection.
