Seeing as the site says you can just manually check your DNS settings to see if they've changed, and the FBI site links to it, I don't think its a virus...at least that wasn't my intention by posting the article haha...I use a mac anyway :p

Edit: Apparently the trojan can affect across the board..good thing i checked!

This trojan horse can affect macs as well as windows. As macs become more popular there will be malware targeting them.

As i said in my edit - i checked it out more and saw that it was for Macs too...theyre not so invincible these days!

Yay I'm not infected! Though this is fascinating to hear, I hadn't heard of this before. I should pass it along, too. I'm sure someone will benefit from it.

I don't know what to believe. I keep scanning my system and it seems fine but...dammit!

Why did I have such a lapse in common sense. *facedesk*
You're in serious trouble buddy, perhaps you only option is to douse you pc / laptop in holy water / kerosene, and your Ethernet port as well just to be soon.

If you don't act quickly it could spread to any other electrical devices in your house, toasters, microwaves, who knows what else?

Oh this would explain the problems that were plaguing my dad's computer a while back then. Makes sense now, before when I was trying to fix it I couldn't ID the problem. Funny thing is the technologically retarded person that he is he got a worse virus that forced me completely wipe his computer and fixed this issue.

I don't know about UK sites covering this, but the FBI posting this makes it seem legit.

Go to "forms" and the link is listed.

It's best to go straight to the horse's mouth. Since this one is allegedly from the FBI, I went to FBI.gov and did a search. I came back with the above.

Stopped reading there. If anyone still uses Internet Explorer it's those people who open every fucking email they get no matter who it's from or what the subject is.

i.e. My parents.

Mozilla > I.E. and my parents use Opera, so tbh, I couldn't care less.
Also, I am apparently "clean" according to that site at least, aand I am a savvy enough browser and internetter that I don't need antivirus.

Apparently I'm all good.
So how do we end up getting this particular strand of computer aids?

Wow, that's sort-a kind-a horrifying. On the PC mag. article they said it was primarily Win/Mac PCs that were infect. I'm not sure if a Linux machine saved me or not, but thanking Linus Torvald anyhow.
If Linux is built on code, then you're at risk.

Just so we're clear. You're at risk.

Don't fall into the same false sense of security all Mac users fall into. "I don't get viruses, because I have a *insert name here*".

Wasn't this something Anon said they were going to do a little while ago? And then Anon posted that the Anon that claimed to be doing this isn't the real Anon? Or something?

I'm just gonna assume I'm free of this computer disease. I haven't experienced any problems and really there wasn't any sites that I could possibly think to get a virus on.

I assure you that I'm not. I did a completely reinstall of my OS and am taking steps to protect myself.

You should probably still get an anti-virus software. There's Microsoft Security Essentials that you can get for free. It's not McAfee or Kaspersky, but it's better than nothing.

Besides remember the saying, "It's better to have something and not need it, then not have something and need it."

Considering I.E. is still the #1 used web browser, it's not as weird of a thing to say as you two are making it out to be.

Was anyone here actually infected?
By the sounds of it I think I have actually. Some websites would come up with errors while others would be fine with no rhythm or rhyme. I suspected I was having DNS issues but it seems like this is the cause...

Okay, how do I fix this guys? I'm not massively clued up on this stuff.

EDIT: Seemingly false alarm now I've checked my laptop. Odd how I've been having the same kind of issues lately... Coincidence? I THINK NOT!!!
