Hurricane Kunta. Kunta Kinte.

But anyway, this is ridiculous. African American names should just be American names, no?

I would go for Hurricane Yo' Mamma's Ass, a lot more jokes could be made there.

Please tell me this is a fucking joke. A black congress woman is appearantly annoyed about all hurricanes having caucasian (white) sounding names. She is also annoyed about weather reporters not reporting the weather in a "language" that everyone can understand (if it's ghetto talk I'm going to sue her for those same fucking reasons becuase I don't speak drunken, addicted piece of human refuse). So I guess we're going to see huricane Tyrone soon.

EDIT: Shit, this is old news sorry.
Can you please explani why this infuriates you so?

See, this is why equality/no racism will never be achieved.
The White Man started it but the Black Man won't let go.

have to ask who cares what nickname you give a hurracanie? all they do is drop in univited and wreck your day also claming that hurricans have only caucasian name is rascist like the beliefe that africans and asians and native americans and caucasians are different races sorry but if race was based in the animal kingdom on different amounts of melanine then we would have twice as many sub species as we do now e.g. the white and black zebra and the black and white zebra it dont matter what its colour is its still a bloody zebra

So one congresswoman said something in 2003. Well it's not a joke but it's certainly old.
I love the distinctly non-"Bix Nood" quality to that e-mail excerpt though. No unfortunate undercurrents as to why this became such a big deal at all.

Blah blah political correctness. You know the drill by this point. An uppity black woman took issue with something most people don't think about.
(Don't tell him Tyrone was a "white" name originally.)

EDIT: Shocking noone, it appears the complainers are the only ones using the R-word. Sure is easy to make things sound more negative when we can just use the "Damned darkies using the race card again!" card, eh?

Does it really matter? That'd be like bitching if there was a serial killer and we didn't give it a black-sounding name in the headlines. "Green Goblin? That's not black enough! How's about the Black Goblin? I don't care if he really is green! Black that shit up!" This is just stupid people being stupid.

Hurricanes should have names like Hurricane "HOLY SHIT IS THAT A FLYING VOLVO" or hurricane "I don't recall us ever buying a flying house." How about Hurricane "This is your captain speaking, if you look out your right you will see beautiful rainclouds, and if you look to your left you will see the ground, fast-approaching."

She wants to make people associate black people with destructive things that inflict misery and destruction on everything they pass.

That sounds like something you would find difficulty explaining to the NAACP

I can't help but think this sotry was covered (by the press not the OP) as it can be used as a tool by the right wing to undermine the pursuit of equality. The best way to undermine perusing change is to find an idiot with an invalid complaint and promote it as "political correctness gone mad" or something similar.

p.s. Anyone else assume this was about hurricane Katrina?

It's just so fucking stupid and tedious. Like many people said, why does she want to give African sounding names to things that cause tons of damage? Who gives a fuck about it's name? And the weather report one is what annoyed me the most. If you're too god-damn retarded to figure out that if you don't haul ass out of your home becuase a hurricane is coming becuase of mildly complex words used then you don't deserve to fucking live. Natural selection.

Somebody needs a reality pill, if this woman really thinks that the court system should be spending their time on something this trivial instead of important things like divorce and patent law she is retarded.
