If none of those names have any meaning for you, don't worry (I'm almost jealous of you). But every time they're brought up, obsessed over, every time SOMETHING odd is jumped on as PROOF WE'LL BE GETTING THEM TOMORROW, I want to just SCREAM.

Is it really so hard for players bases to just wait patiently, instead of screaming over little thing?

Okay, in that case I don't have to worry. :) I don't even know what you're talking about. :D

Overwatch junk. Though I only know that cause a channel I subscribe too prettymuch does what the OP is mentioning. (I've stayed subscribed in the possibly vain hope they'll return to actual interesting variety and content instead of an 8:1 video ratio of random Overwatch hype).

As to the broader point, yeah, it'd be nice if people saved their hype until something actually exists. ITs even funnier when it goes in both directions. To take an example from a game I play, Paragon (MOBA), upcoming heroes already have multiple pages long threads on how they'll break the game when they aren't even out.

So it's about Overwatch. I pretty much know nothing of its player base, but I'm no stranger to seeing people hyped up over rumors and speculations on games; even before HL3 confirmed was a thing. Heck! HL3 should had answered your question with a sound yes!

They can. In fact, most of the time, they do.

The catch is, when you wait patiently, no one pays attention, since you aren't doing anything noteworthy. And in the era of clickbait and the 24-hour on-the-spot news cycle, attention spans are very short indeed. Don't believe me? Head down to the airport, where the drivers who are waiting to pick specific people up are waiting. Hold up a sign that says "Godot". See where that gets you.

O-V-E-R-W-A-T-C-H...

Alright... I played it once and will never play it again. It's a like a bursting color bubble filled with LSD and XTC suitable for Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder kids with energy drinks in their veins...

Yea, hype is overrated and highly annoying. One of the youtubers I follow constantly posts theory videos and the like about what's to come in overwatch, and I always get annoyed when I think he made a new interesting video but instead it's another 'HYPE, NEW INFORMATION OMG!!" video.

I also wish gamers in general would just wait until ACTUAL information was brought out before starting to talk about it, rather than post dozens, even hundreds of speculation videos and threads weeks in advance.

Yeah, I'm pretty tired of the Excalibur Umbra hype at this point as well. Damn near everytime DE says anything everyone loses their shit going 'OH HO HO THEY'RE TEASING UMBRA!' and then 5 minutes later it turns out they're just adding more RNG to the game.

I just... don't care anymore about Umbra. 5 bucks says when it drops we'll either have to farm for ages to get it or they'll introduce yet-another rare resource that artificially gates access off to it. And then when we do get it, it'll either be under-powered, only useful in specific 4-man teams, or will be heavily nerfed for no good reason right out of the gate because... Trinity, I guess.

...No, I'm not bitter about how DE's been handling Warframe recently, what are you talking about?

...Boy, it that isn't a succinct summary about "why altnameJag stopped playing Warframe".

I'll just toss "new tank lines in World of Tanks" onto the pile. There's only, like, 5 varieties of tank: "small fast gun", "medium gun", "large inaccurate gun", "derp-cannon", and "garbage". Unless you're a tread-head, it doesn't matter whether the tank is made in the USSR or China. Who I chose specifically as an example, because most Chinese tanks are literally Chinese knock-offs of other nations.

I dunno what this is about but if we wanna talk about hype, it's all about balance. You wanna know when to hype yourself, you wanna cultivate your eye to see when something is hype-worthy. For example, persona 5 was hypeworthy, the recently announced DBZ fighting game from makers of blazblue/guilty gear, very hype worthy. You can't go wrong being hype about these games but if you do it for any little thing without knowledge you'll just end up disappointed.
