I don't get how you could even start demanding that someone just up and change their sexuality, let alone start preaching about gender roles. It just sounds all around offensive.

If the kid is now happy and married to a woman...why is everyone making a big deal about it. So what if he's "cured" If its part of his religion for him to be straight let him do it. It is intolerance if he went for help and got it, thats his news. And for violent video games, come on! Just ask someone other then a video game fanatics opinion on video games and thats why this stuff isnt aloud. Video games are the minority people face it.
Because homosexuality isn't a disease to be cured, and this book tries to paint that if you use enough medication and religious pelandering, you can be cured of it, like it herpes or ebola.
He's actually quite right, providing his homophobic parents do still love him and wish him to be straight and he in response feels similarly, why shouldn't he pretend to be straight? (If he was gay to begin with) Sure in a perfect world alot of things'd be different, but if its only the kids interest you're taking into account here, just because his parents are moronic, hating POS doesn't necessarily mean they're not caring parents, and if he can please them then maybe its in his best interest to do so.

Ok......You do know that this actually has absolutely nothing to do with games though, right?

I mean really....Nothing. I really hate how about 80% of this site looks at every current event in terms of "How can I relate this to oppression of gaming as an art form?" and not in terms of it's own discussion value, of which there is plenty.

By the way, it's called Freedom of Speech. She's allowed to write it, and they're allowed to sell it, no matter how wrong it may be.
So if I write a book in which I claim that my life was made better in the eyes of God by owning slaves (Leviticus 25:44), I could sell it at Wal-Mart? Good to know.
If you could get wal-mart to sell it, or even published for that matter, there would be nothing illegal about it. Probably wouldn't make you a lot of friends though.

Wal-mart is trying to make money, They probably thought that the demographic who would buy this would be worth the bad rep caused by Civil Rights activists.

The problem is, if I wrote a book in which I say how my life was improved by slowly drawing and quartering a willing man in my basement, Wal-Mart would remove it from the shelves so fast your head would spin. This is Wal-Mart going with the money over the value.
Indeed, this is because WalMart has a CHOICE in whether or not they choose to carry your work. Much in the same way that YOU have a choice in whether or not you write a book, and take it to them to sell.

The only reason WalMart has that book on sale, is because they thought it might SELL. They are a business, not a library. Shelf space has monetary value, as does storage.

This is why people became atheist. religions becoming perverted and piling up so much bullshit that its original laws, commandments, and practices, become null and void and we even forget them. I ask you WERE in the original ten commandments does it say. "Thou shalt not have gay butt sex." NO WHERE. People will use religion just to instill fear into peoples hearts by making them fear that if they do something thats not "NORMAL" than there going to hell. Which is even more bullshit, beacuse ill ask you another question, "Who is normal" Nobody.

Ok, let me get this straight...

You don't want this kid selling a book that explains his point of view on homosexuality... because you don't agree with it? And the authors of opposing viewpoints to your own are "moronic fanatics"? Am I hearing this right?

The nature of homosexuality is still an open question, believe it or not. And even if it weren't, exactly what right do you have to deny his freedom of speech?

Good grief...

I say we burn down Walmart. What possible negative reprecussions could that have. I mean, it's not like they ever carry anything you're looking for.

FAIL!
That sort of shit shouldn't even be marketed, let alone sold at a popular retailer.

GOD DAMNIT! Today's parents are stupid fucks!
Really? Parents? I'm looking here and I read religious conservatives, not parents.

Let it be for sale, if only to cost the woman some money or shed some light on the morons in the world.
That's probably more accurate, but the book is for parents to brainwash their kids, I'll agree that it's probably the religious officials that are the real problem, but parents should be smarter than this, your child's happiness should be more important than your religion.

I've no idea what the sales look like but I don't think it would be that big a seller. (I don't think it was mentioned in the OP, was it?)

Anyway for these parents religion coincides with happiness, and every parent trys to make their children happy by making them whatever would make them happy. And since they're looking to reserve atleast 3 seats for heaven when they die, from their perspective they're doing it for the kids happiness. Personally I find these people despicable, but that doesn't necessarily make them bad parents, just stupid people educating their children the only way they know how.

For what its worth, the more they try to drill the kid into thinking one thing, the more likely he is to be drawn away from it when logic hits. Sad thing is, all that'll cause is some friction between him and his family.

Haha...this is what it took for you to realize Walmart is hypocritical? Really?

I work there, and there are far more glaring representations of hypocrisy there. Foremost is their refusal to sell anything but censored music, even though they'll sell the goriest horror movies around. (Seriously, check it out. There'll be horror movies with disturbing covers, but they refuse to sell uncensored music so they can "protect the children")

OT: While I don't say anything against the book, are you really surprised? Even though Walmart is an equal opportunity employer, as current laws force them to be, they are still a very openly CHRISTIAN company. Books about how "God did this" or things of that nature will always get a prime place on shelves. You don't have to like it, but there it'll stay. Unless you get a large group to change the general viewpoint of the country, they'll keep selling the crap that makes them money. Doesn't matter if you like it either. People are willing to buy, and they provide.

Question:

Is it normal to experiment with different kinds of Internet porn in high school? I did that for a while until I found out im just a normal straight guy. But I caught my self fapping to the wrong stuff a few times (Like 5 times)

Am I okay or was that just harmless experimentation?
Well personally, I try not to that in school, feel to tense thinking I might get caught, but really who cares what you're into? Just make sure you and whoever (or whatever, ;)) you're involved with concents to whatever kinky stuff you've got in mind.

And maybe stay away from cups.

Am I the only one who noticed that this kid is blaming his turning gay on his time spent at a religious university? What does that say?

If people don't buy it, they won't carry it, but is it logical to ban a book just because we don't agree with it?

I fail to see where is "hypocrisy" here. Where is this whole "plague" due to violent video games you rave about? Walmart sells all manner of violent video games, and even when they get decried as "violent", it isn't really by Walmart itself.

As for the book itself, I stand by omicron1's stance on the matter.

Aww don't worry, you're just a little bi-curious! You just need to go to bi-curious camp to get that fixed right up.

Just gotta say, I loled at that.

Seriously though, they can choose what to sell. Sure it may (or may not) make good ol' Sam roll over in his grave but hes not in charge anymore is he. This is just how our society is atm. Its "cool" to hate on homosexuality and violent video games. The book does this while the game is that which should be hated.

Wal-Mart's first loyalty is to their shareholders. This book will make them money. To expect anything else is delusional. Money is what they want and, trust me, Wal-Mart is good at making money.

As much as it pains me to say it, I agree that she has a right to publish and sell this book. And there are people that religious counseling actually work for. Those people desire change in their lives, they were raised with the knowledge that homosexuality is bad and needed to change to appease themselves morally. But I personally believe that it is this shit that spreads intolerance and hate. But that's also a problem I have with organized religion. I am currently losing a couple of my best friends due to my sexuality and their spirituality.
