Fi isn't so bad considering Ghirahim is
a dark mirror of her and is essentianlly a dark master sword
So it'd make sense if she could fight similarly.

As for characters it's pretty obviously the big names will be there. I mean in a DW game you know Lu Bu is going to be in it INCLUDING the spin-offs. (Speaking of which I would be so psyched if Lu Bu popped up in Hyrule Warriors)

DW has a MASSIVE cast of characters to choose from. (8 has 83) as such it's the new ones you don't expect that they always announce. I.E. Yu Jin (who surprisingly took forever to join) Lu Lingqi Chen Gong etc. So their philosophy probably carries over.

Coming from a long-time Dynasty Warriors fan. You're going to have an all-star cast and a big one at that. It's almost guaranteed. Who knows? You may find a favorite out of the misfits. It's certainly happened to me over the DW games.

I'm telling you man. Fi, Agitha, Midna, and Lana all fit just as well to the type of game as Link, Zelda and Impa. (And Ganondorf, of course he's going to be in it). If you only had badass 'regular' warrior types, it just wouldn't be a Warriors game. Having a variety of different, and sometimes pretty odd, styles of character is the whole point.

Like... DW has regular swords and spears guys. Then it also basically turns famous strategists into mages, and sometimes The Crow with a rock launcher [http://koei.wikia.com/wiki/Guo_Huai]. And THEN it adds characters who's only noteworthy traits are "is another warrior's wife".
Dude I friggin' love Guo Huai. The way he can't handle the kick of his own rage musou attack while stumbling about and collapsing after the final shot always makes me chuckle. Also I'd hand it to DW if they didn't add another warriors wife then their would be absolutely no female characters except maybe Wang Yi and Zhurong.

To add onto the crazier characters there's a tiny dude who carries a friggin' rocket battering ram/spear hybrid. Earlier games weren't as crazy but there still were magic fans and stuff.

Since I'm not a big Zelda fan yet (played OOT recently, going through WW right now), there's only one character I want to play as in Hyrule Warriors.

I don't mind other characters and newcomers. Their combat styles look really fun to use.

I'm totally fine with Fi and Agatha being playable characters. Since they're not really fighters in their respective games, it will make their playstyles all the more interesting and creative.

And as long as we're speculating about possible playable characters I've got to say: if Linebeck gets left out I will be beside myself with grief. It would be nothing short of a crime to exclude on the the best supporting characters from the series.
Linebeck would be pretty cool. It'd be interesting to see his moveset.

He'll get Toon Link to do every thing for him.

They're probably just basing it off the popularity of the characters in Japan.

Then where's my Tingle dammit! >.<
In all seriousness, if that were the case then Tingle would have been announced already as Tingle is very popular in Japan. Not to mention, I highly doubt Agatha is more popular than some other characters. No, I say this is more of Tecmo Koei looking at all the characters that have been in Zelda games, putting them on a dart board, and then throwing a dart at said board.

Which means there's still hope for the King of Hyruuuuule! XD
Perhaps his quest is to find out what's for dinner...

Don't worry, we'll get all Gorons, Zoras, Kokiris and Eponas in time!
As you said, it' will be released later this year, plenty of time to get out one character every week, that way they will make sure no one forgets about the game.

I'm just wondering why this wasn't posted in the comment section of said newspost here on the escapist.
There was the exact same dicussion there and plenty of threads have been put down for "creating a new thread were it isn't needed".
Oh well, I guess the more Zelda dicussion we have, the merrier :)

I still thoroughly enjoy them basically making "canon" (well, as canon as a Warriors spin-off gets) what only my favorite fan-made version of the Zelda storyline did so far.

You need to realize that this is a game made by Koei, the company that has made a game series were half the characters are chinese diplomats and tacticians that juggle thousands of enemy soldiers right along with their lords and ladies and fling magic.

Did I mention it is a historical game series based on mostly real characters?

They could add the postman as a playable character and it would not surprise me.

Though given the source material of their Dynasty Warriors games, flanderization [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Flanderization] is pretty much par [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ravages_of_Time] for [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K.O.3an_Guo] the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_Vixens] course [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Cliff_(film)]...

most DW games feature characters from Chinese history that never in their lives picked up a weapon not to mention they use some very unrealistic and exaggerated weapons. Also Zelda is a fantasy universe, realism is not really necessary.

Linebeck and Beedle would be cool if they're running different shops and transportation vehicles in the game rather than be playable characters... just realized that Lana's name is plenty lewd spelled backwards :S

I wouldn't worry about the game just featuring random characters as opposed to the obvious ones. I can guarantee we will see a Goron, Zora, Gerudo, maybe even a Deku character playable in the game. I like the weird characters so far, I'm just hoping Fierce Deity Link makes it into the game. I'm drooling at the thought of it.

As of right now, I just hope we get some characters that are not from the 3D games. 3D Zelda games are my favorites, and are the most popular and well known titles. Yet, I would love to see some of the lesser known handheld characters and villains get the 3D treatment.

Besides, even if some really good characters are left out of the final game, if the game itself sells well enough, we are probably guaranteed a sequel with even more characters in the coming years.

I'm more excited at the thought of Kokiri and Gerudo making an appearance as playable characters. Those two races just disappeared after MM.

As to your point about the 2D Zelda characters, I already mentioned how much I'd loved to see the Oracle games touched on, particularly Onox and Veran.

Those games don't get enough love.
