"I have never played the game and know nothing about it, but I disapprove. People tell me there are bad things and I don't like bad things."

Repeat until popular with stubborn, close-minded viewership.

As much as I hate Spike TV, Geoff handled the trap fairly well. I liked that talk show host they had on, though: I didn't think it was possible to get dumber than someone who actually works at Faux news, but she found a way.

After watching the video, I can say it wasn't as bad as expected. The video game expert DID get his word in, and the last guy to speak was the one that made the most sense.

This really saddens me.

Does the average dipshit still view games as "Atari and Pac-Man and all that?"

Not to mention the one woman's quip about "who's actually playing games", implying that it's still only 13 year old boys, is wholly inaccurate. Statistic from the ESA website: "The average game player is 33 years old and has been playing games for 12 years."

I sick and tired of all this ignorant condescension - that games are a minor, cutesy diversions that waste the time of 13 year old boys that could be off curing cancer or something if only they'd stop fiddling with those darned Nintendos.

Fair AND Balanced! Don't you listen? WTH is wrong with you? You can't be BIASED and still be Fair AND Balanced. Simply impossible. /sarcasm

I think my favorite bit was when the one woman said something along the lines of "I don't understand why this game wasn't rated AO. I mean, these ratings people need to have their heads checked!"

Obviously, those poor, impressionable, innocent 17 year olds need to be protected from side boob.

After watching the video, I really just wanted someone to do a quick study, presenting people with clips of R movie sex scenes, and clips of the Mass Effect sex scenes, and ask the people what rating it deserved, or what age it was appropriate for. I get the impression that people would be far more outraged at what gets by in an R rated film, but somehow these clips get shit from Fox News because OMG U CAN DIRECT TEH SECHS AND HAV ORJEEZ AND TAP ALIEN BOOTAY!!!

[obligatory]BUT THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!![/obligatory]

I don't see what's so wrong with a political discussion with multiple viewpoints. Granted, I don't think they were all valid, considering none of them have actually played Mass Effect, but this isn't a case of Fox News screwing up. This is a lack of information and understanding of the medium of video games. And it's not Fox News that's being biased, it's the people in the discussion. That's like saying CNN is left-biased because Wolf Blitzer is. I understand being so reactionary because of video games' struggle for recognition as a legitimate art/media form, but let's not fly off the handle every time someone from an older generation displays their ineptitude regarding things pertaining to our generation.

So... If someone from IGN or something wrote a review on lets say Drakes Fortune based SOLELY on the box and the TV commercial, giving it an abysmal rating (for arguments sake) would you not hold IGN accountable for letting their Playstation editor post that kind of crap?

It was a group of ignorant people trying to use a topic the majority of the older generations don't understand as shock value. They banked that most people watching never played it, and never will play it.

That was bull crap. the psychiatrist didn't know what she was on about. I'm tired of TV shows getting "experts" to spout crap about videogames and hence make everyone think that the crap is correct. We all what mass effect is like, but they don't and thus stop people from knowing what mass effect is like.

Don't you think its odd how they point out that the sex scene is the devils work but the fact you can persuade Sarrus to blow is brains out is A ok.

You know, I can't actually be too upset about this because It's generating great press for Mass Effect.

I'm sorry... What part of headlining the segment as, "'SE'XBOX? New Video Game Shows Full Digital Nudity and Sex" isn't a complete screw up on Fox News' part? Along the lines of, I don't know... blatant lies? Which a minute of cursory research would tell you were lies? It may be a growing trend in the news business (especially 24 hour news networks) to just let random people on the show to spout their opinions (preferably two opposing nut jobs, to keep things "balanced"), but maybe, just maybe, the reporters should do some research, so when your "expert" throws out some random trash about the "real" audience for games being children, you can CALL them on it. I apologize if I'm off base here, but when I watch the news, I'm actually doing it to become MORE informed, not to sit and watch the news try and misinform the rest of the naive populace on something that I know better about.

I'm not against the panel of people having an opinion, and honestly, the woman presenting the piece did a nice job of maintaining some semblance of moderation. Also, as another poster said above, the guy who spoke last was pretty sane. We're not against panels of individuals having a reasoned debate. We're annoyed by a "professional" news outlet acting like a bunch of reactionary amateurs. Does it matter that it was Fox News rather than CNN? No, not really, its just that I think most of us are less surprised by it.
