Makes me wonder what happened to actual journalism, instead they're pretty much reporting as fact what they heard in what appears to be a really out of control chinese whispers effect. It seems Journalism has become the art of getting peoples attention, and probably moreso to make money as opposed to, and god forbid, actual facts reported. I have lots of respect for Games journalists, if only for trying to get the good word out there and trying to at least show the community it serves what it needs to, and wants to know.
As for this particular episode, I think the most shocking thing as always with anything from a media outlet as large as fox, is the fact that most people will take what's reported there as pretty much an accurate representation of what's going on right now. This doesn't apply to any of us, but for the average person who doesn't know anything about video games, they only press about it they'll actually believe is negative press. It's either that there's too much mis-information from Fox and all the media put together and the asshat brigade led by one Mr.Thompson. That or most people themselves are already biased against games anyway, after all, any person who actually cared about what the industry and games and community is about, wouldn't need to take a minute to look online and find out. The fact that it's reported the way it is doesn't exactly speak well of the media (not that I could speak well of it aside from the issue), It will always continue to be viewed as such until the gaming industry works it's way up to be big and diverse enough that even the most ignorant of people will eventually, be able to form thier own opinions based on thier own experiences and reports like this will matter little to everyone anyway.
Until such a time though, the media will continue to report opinions as fact, because it is shock tactics to it's core and does nothing but make money for everyone involved. Good for them, just a lot of head-slapping for everyone else.
