Persoanlly, I think the permaban avatar is something I'd do. That is, something I'd do for a petty attempt for a laugh. Though I admit, I do get a bit of smug satisfaction when I see people who were acting like complete brats get nailed with it.

To be honest I thought that the avatars were the changed by those who got permabanned as a sort of a cool little protest club. I found it funny and I liked it.
Now that I know that it was actually the escapist that changed it... I still find it funny, and I still like it.
I don't see it as shaming those banned, but rather just a good humored joke.
