I actually don't like the "permabanned" avatar swap

I kind of appreciate it, honestly. It expresses that most of the people who have gotten banned didn't get there from a single mistake in judgement or instance of misbehavior, but a sheer unwillingness to respect that their continued antics wouldn't be tolerated.

And, y'know, no actors were actually harmed in the making of this .GIF. So...

If it doesn't sit well with your sense of humor, or you genuinely think someone is making light of child abuse, you have my sympathies. But I'm clearly not in accord with the first, and I disagree with the sentiment of the second.

Here's another thing: once permabanned, you won't be seeing their avatars around much anyway. I wonder why that might be?

Oh, fuck, lol! I don't even know what they want - I've been sacrificing a wide variety of things in their honour for quite a while now - a goat, a badger, a Christmas tree, a pair of jeans, a jar of cookies, a virgin (well, admittedly that was the goat), the script for Half-Life 3 which I stole from Valve, etc. I wasn't sure what they wanted, so I tried to cover all bases.

As a side note, may I suggest the grumpy cat treatment from now on for any thread that starts getting "heated"? Like, the sexism ones, the piracy ones, etc. And just enable it by default on R&P. It's better than closing the threads, I think.

I saw your post. Your complaint is perfectly valid seeing as you had a genuine issue with the image used. Not just a case of "Oh you've messed up the profile of some douche who'll never use it again!". Perhaps we could change to a different gif for similar effect without the child abuse?

The child abuse thing could be a problem but it doesn't bother me. Though real child abuse is a very bad thing indeed.

When i first came onto this site, i thought the permaban avi was a bit stupid, it just looks so immature, it reeks a little too much of gloating over someone who can't respond. I still think it's a little overboard, but less so now, i think i've largely stopped noticing it, about the only thing i look at with permabanned people is what they said to bring the banhammer down on them.

Also, why are all out avatars turned into the same grumpy cat?
