I could use some pointers please because I always fail at stuff in general by dying so easily after level 13. I get pwned like I am a noob. I am not exactly the greatest at RPG's but I am not bad at them either.

Btw, I hate close combat and like being a magician or an archer.

If you could give me some uhh pointers that would be helpful.

My problem is that later on everything just doesn't die for me and in 3 hits I basically die. I have not been a character passed lvl 14 because I die by a creature that kills me quickly in a cave. It might be because I dont know how to enchant and ect.

Edit: I have a marksman who has max agility and speed basically. Would it be better to have as much cameleon as possible?

Learn how to min/max your levels. If you don't, the enemies will grow stronger at a faster pace than you.

i'd say join the mages guild. because once you can make your own spells you have a shot at creating some awesomeness. really helpful. oh and whatever you do. save up your 500 gold grand soul gems. you need them to make a permanent invisibility suit.

If you are good at Marksmanship and Magic, then stick to that. Building up your Sneak would be a good idea as well, because of the long-range critical hits.

Personally, I would use the scroll item-duplication cheat on fully-charged Grand Soul Gems(You can find them in the locked case in the Arcane University in the lobby of the Arch-Mage, after you join the Mage's guild, taking them is not a crime) and then using them to enchant weapons with damage-causing enchantments. Just remember, it's better for it to do damage over time, than damage all at once. That way, you can use it more times, as well as have it do optimum damage. Also, if you can't enchant arrows, find some damage-enchanted arrows, duplicate them, and use them with a damage enchanted bow. All those things add-up and stack together.

One simple rule to help you out: Gain 10 levels in any combination of endurance-based skills before you gain 10 levels in your major skills. That way, you can get +5 endurance when you level up, and you will get the maximum HP from leveling.

Maxing out your endurance ASAP is critically important. Unlike everything else that is involved with building your character, endurance not retroactive. You gain .1x your endurance when you level up, so the higher it is sooner, the more HP you will have when you finally hit 100 in each of your major skills. My first character in Morrowind (a thief) made that mistake, and I had about 250HP. All the rest of my characters following had about 500HP. Both are rough estimates, but the point should be clear: forgo your ideas for your character build until you have maxed endurance, otherwise you will hurt for it later.

Making custom classes also never hurt anyone. I always try to choose one skill from each attribute that is a skill I have control of its use, so as to not over level. It would be a mistake for a fighter to choose swords as a skill because they will need them in combat at any moment. The last thing you need to happen is being in the heat of battle, fighting for your life, and suddenly cutting off all possibility of increasing your character to the full +5 +5 +5 each level can bestow.

Edit: Alchemy is also your friend. It's not hard to make some lethal poisons, and they all stack. Just don't miss with your bow when you apply one. It sucks.

Under the options menu, go to gameplay and you will see a slider called "difficulty", but I like to call it the "Epicness Meter". Put it all the way to the left if you want to feel like a god. Also, with marksman, it's always a good idea to level up Sneak so you can do huge damage to enemies far away. Don't even let them know you're there ;)

Yeah, make sure you focus your skills as much as you can. Go find a website that gives you good examples of the distribution of skills for your class.

Choppie6. Totally agree. That difficulty slider just makes every battle an epic (really long) fight. Even the ones with mudcrabs.

I have played oblivion for a long time. the key is is to get your main stats up. Like if i'm trying to be a close combat tank i'm gonna put up my strength and endurance. A magician its gonna be intellagence and wisdom the others you can lvl up if you want like armourer is good concentrating on your two main abilities first is a good start

Better yet, get a level-adjuster mod like KCAS so that you don't have to worry about the stupid "efficient leveling" problem built into the design. Min/maxing when you're not a warrior character doesn't just break the immersion, it sends it to get shot then grinds it up and feeds it to its son in chili while licking away its son's yummy tears. So get KCAS, because Oblivion Leveling Must Die.

When it comes to shield/sword combat the trick is getting a good rhythm down. I haven't played as an archer or mage yet, so no tips on that, but melee combat is less about skill or number of attacks and more about timing. Block slash slash (sometimes slash a third time) block power attack.

Yeah I hate to say it, but this!!

Just take it down a notch for the harder fights so you don't die, there's no shame in it, Oblivion is about quests :)
