There's also the old wisdom of "He who chases two rabbits catches neither."

That's the truth of the matter. Creating that kind of world alone is daunting enough. Creating a deep combat system is daunting enough. Trying to create both is not going to end well.
There is also the old saying of "Never give up"

Like look at GTA and how far it came from GTA 3 to GTA 5.
At some point you stop being determined and start being obstinate.

YES KEEP THE SCAN VISOR!!!

I actually read the logs and prefer the story to be in the background. I mean the older Resident Evil games did it by having thier stories explained in documents you collect.

Difference being that Resident Evil didn't make you stop every 5 seconds to collect the lore, and didn't leave you exposed in the process.

The idea of piecing a story together through logs, I'm fine with that - other games have done it well (Resident Evil, BioShock, Doom 3, etc.) However, the scan visor thing isn't one of them.
