Hello escapist im in a bit of a predicament, I really want to play shogun 2 total war and I will need a new pc to play it. Now I don't want to spend the holy grail filled with rich people to get Jesus's laptop, but I also don't want the game to play like shit either. I cant spend over 700 dollars to get it, and I dont need a monitor to go with it (HDMI to plasma!), any suggestions?

Can you update your current PC with a few parts to get it to run new games, or is it just too old for that, are you comfortable building your own?

Build it yourself using parts from your local cheap parts shop. (Newegg if your in america, if your somewhere else you might have to google them like I did). You'll get a better rig then a company would sell you, for cheaper. They're not even that hard to assemble (I honestly had no-idea what made up a computer until about 3 months ago when I googled for the parts to make my new one, and I have to say assembling them is a piece of cake. Just make sure everything is compatible)

Look at the Dell Inspiron computers.

I am actually typing this on one right now, so it's actually not bad. It is around 600-800 dollars depending on what you want, but you can get one for 400 if you just want basic navigation.

To use a basic reference, Star Wars: Empire at War runs on full graphics on high, and runs smoothly. Star Craft also runs fairly well with only natural graphical errors.

This is cheap and has many versions. Go on Dell.com and build your own as well :3

I would recommend a quad-core processor with a NVIDIA card. Intel I find is pretty at these things, but there's nothing wrong with AMD.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I would suggest doing a search for a small computer shop in your city and have them build you a machine if you dont have the knowledge to do it yourself, it would be much more personal then a big premade machine.... plus since Ive build my own comps for awhile now Im not really up on who makes machines and how reliable they are but 700 should get you a pretty nice desktop

If you're building your own and have a $700 budget I'd recommend this

I just built myself one and it was actually really easy, the instructions that come with the motherboard are really comprehensive and the computer store will make sure that you don't buy parts that aren't compatible.

It's about a 40-50 min job and lots of fun although since I was paying over $500 NZD they offered to put it together for free.

I had a graphics card and screen already but $650 got me a case, motherboard, 4GB ddr3 ram, a 6core AMD cpu, 660W power supply and a decent cd drive. Everythings colour coded and I chucked ubuntu in it for a while till I got hold of a copy of windows.

I'd recommend tigerdirect.com, they have really good prebuilt ones, and you will even have enough money left over to get a really good vid card. I've bought from them numerous times, they haven't failed me yet and items usually make it here before the time they said it would.

I will take this suggestion into consideration, unfortunately my small town has been taken over by Walmart. (curse you low prices!) So their is only one other computer shop in town and they only repair computers. So I will buy the parts online.

well there are allot of techs out there so chances are there will be at least a few even in a small town, there is a house down the street from me where a guy does his own computer repair buisness, usually they have parts but if you need parts then newegg.com is your friend
