Isn't Philosophy pointless? I mean I have read a lot of books where it is about our place and why we are here ,but then I realized that through all of this discussion whats the point. The saying that comes to mind is "action speaks louder then words". I understand that words determine the actions but they are still two separete things. I have gotten lost in thought with common questions like why we are here? Why do we fight? Why do we cry? All that time put in finding anwsers only to have them pooled with a million others that there can be no civil outcome on whose anwser is right and wrong. You get lost in it and come out with nothing to show for it. I enjoy philosophy but I enjoy it like someone enjoys watching clouds. When we spend this time thinking without actually doing anything it is the equalvalent of playing video games (which I love). The real point I'm trying to make is instead of wondering why the sky is blue why not put that effort towards finding a way to ease sufferring or making a perpetual motion transportation system or hell a talking plant that says it needs to be watered.

So really, you are bashing philosophy.

I see your point but you make it sound like philosophy is only available to certain people, suggesting that the average person shouldn't wonder why they exist and instead should become a scientific genius is a little far fetched.

Also, I'd add that unless you have philosophical belief, everything is pointless.

You worded it perfectly. Philosophy helps quell people's curiosity as to why we exist and how we came to be, and it gives us meaning to live on. It gives us a reason to continue existence, in some ways.

Why do human thinking should be allowed? Should we all become mind-less robots?

How? How do we end the suffering? By doing a random thing and hope for the best? You have to question yourself on "How did it started?", "Why did it in the first place?" and "What can we do to prevent further suffering?".

Besides, if you don't understand the human way of thinking, how the hell are you gonna fix a problem created by humans?

Philosophy is just a speculative science. Speculation leads to fact. Philosophy is important.

Though I do want to bash the teeth in of every pretentious philosophy major.

Thinking and making conclusions about the world around us develops who we are as people. It's one of the muscles of the soul, and like a regular muscle it will weaken if you neglect it. Basically, because all we really are is what we think, it's pretty damn important.

This is like saying, "Art is useless."
We live philosophy, like we live art.
It is the matrix. It has you.

Every single science today began as philosophy. Once we started getting facts and could prove things it stopped being philosophy and became science. Philosophy is the reason we are where we are today.

Philosophy isn't just the why are we here nonsense. There is epistemology, history, and politics all woven into it, and it's on questioning our lives by such means that we come to understand ourselves. It's after understanding how these things shape our minds that we can realize our own possibilities, and that's where we start developing the things you mentioned. They all require the questioning that is the root of philosophy of the individual.

Asking philosophical questions such as "why do we fight", "why are those particular people like that", "what's the driving force behind _____", is actually very useful. you can investigate these questions, and act upon your findings. sociology is very philosophical, and finds out many important things about our society, and can be used by governments and individuals to make a difference.

philosophy can interact in some way with pretty much everything.

New tactic, I think I am right you all think you are right. I will stick to my guns and you to yours. We fight over an idea and get nothing done then making yourself feel superior. There is no way to know who is right and who is wrong. That is why I think philosophy is pointless. Thinking is a wonder in itself but you confuse it with philosophy which muddles it. Does anything truly have a point or are we just deluding ourselves. It's a goddamned sad world and thats true but there is good in it so we learn and cultivate it. We are always going to fight unless knew ideals are born because it sure as hell isn't working now. The thing is we are all in bubble and shut out whhat we see anyways. You hear of the starving children in africa but you don't care you ignore it ,but then again no-one expects you to save them. That right there is sad. ...

This is philosophy a bunch of people in a room yelling there ideas what really gets done?

Not everyone. Just people like you, who post nihilistic gibberish and fail to capitalise and use full stops, like you should have been taught in Primary School.

Philosophy, Ladies and Gentlemen, is the foundation of thought. Your thoughts, your ideas - they all come from a pre-existing philosophical base. 'Freedom', 'Knowledge', 'Humanity' - all abstract, and thus philosophical ideas.

Without philosophy, there is no rational enquiry. Without rational enquiry, there is no science.

Plus, it's a nice way to spend an afternoon.

Philosophy? Pointless?

I dearly hope that you don't truly believe what you're saying. I mean, where would the world be without philosophy? Philosphy is what has pushed us through history, what has set our morals and laws. Has been (sadly) the foundation of many religions. Philosophy brings light to things that were before bathed in darkness and mystery. It even sets us apart from animals, for us to contemplate things as such.

And a lot of what you're rambling on about isn't even philosophy, it's a random assortment of other things.

Please, good sir, go back to school, talk to a wise adult, something! You're obviously missing the point of life.

Besides, hating philosophy is a sort of philosophy in and of itself. You're trying to bash something which you are currently using and depend on for several aspects of your life. Perhaps you don't realize it, but if you were more properly educated, you would.

Philosophy is all about finding your own. No single philosophy is 100% correct they're more like guidelines for shaping yours.Your idea about Philosophy being stupid is a Philosophy.
