I think a good cuty(to satisfy the op) is one similar to heavy rain, sure there are a lot of cuties, but if you mess up maybe once or twice you still don't get a game over, plus there is plenty of time to react.

Bad cuties would be where you have failed it a few times and are forced to memorize the sequence in order to continue which breaks the flow of the game for the player. failing it could be you got tired of pressing 'x' too many times or there wasn't enough time to react. Lets not forget the god of war cuties(the completely pointless ones) where you had to mash 'x' to open a treasure/health box or couldn't open a door easily even though you are this really huge muscular guy.

I am going to be that guy. If you pronounce "QTE" as cutie, you have made it an acronym. If you instead say the letters Q T E, it is an initialism. Example, FBI is an initialism, while SCUBA is an acronym. If acronyms are against your religion, saying cutie for QTE makes you a heathen.

I wouldn't call that a QTE though. As you said, it's more of a context sensitive action. RE6 is like that; stun a zombie and then press RT to do an attack. Not really a QTE. What I would say was a QTE is the plane sequence I mentioned in the OP and especially when trying to open a chest where it's like "Press X" for no reason whatsoever.

I like QTE's if they are done well, tapping a button to survive torture in MGS will always be a standout moment in gaming for me and really gave me the impression that I had to struggle not to break. And I don't mind the occasional button combination to dodge an attack or do a flashy move, those are fine. But ones that are there just to be there, ones you can't even fail, are bad.

Like I remember the game Viking, you literally had to tap B to open chests. TO OPEN CHESTS! That is completely fucking pointless!

You know the final coop mission in BF3? The one where you break through a door and is then immediatedly caught in a headlock and have to press one random key within 0.5 second in order not to die? And how it's at the end of a 20 minute long mission, which you'll have to do over from the beginning if you don't manage to hit the correct key within half a second?

Atleast you could reload to an earlier save after losing to the Rat Boss.
Yeah, BF3 Co-op had a few moments like that. I remember on one of the missions my partner and I opening two doors, me on the upper level, him on the lower, in order to move into the next room. No matter who was on the upper door, they would get knifed instantly. The open door animation was too long, and as you were opening it an enemy would run past, knife you, then run off before you even regained control of your character. That's just poor design.
