The only time F3 really scared me is when I'm walking through the quiet wasteland and suddenly I'm jumped by a family of Deathclaws.
Other than that it's not that bad.

Yeah, the atmosphere of F3 doesn't help the feeling of scaredness, especially when you can hear a ghoul/deathclaw/whatever but you have no idea where it is. Best advice I can give is to just stick with it and plough on. Oh, and to go to the Dunwich Building as well, full of kittens and rainbows, that is.
400 hours and I still have a hernia every time I see a Giant Radscorpion.
First time I see an Albino Giant Scorpion I officially shat my pants and unload ALL MY AMMO INTO THE BUG!

Thats like not being afraid of The Ring and being afraid of the Tellytubbies!(On second thought, thats a terrible example, the Tellytubbies scare the shit out of me)
When I was younger, the lion chase scene in Teletubbies scared me and I just couldn't watch it.

Fallout 3 is scary in the same way that Australia is scary: loads of animals, all of which want to kill you. Seriously australians, how do you survive the rampaging giant spiders and highly venomous snakes!? HOW!?

Pretty simple, really. You're by no means defenceless, but definately not on good odds.

Just persevere with it, you'll start to learn how to survive and thus will feel a little less vulnerable.

I can help you with that! I know of a mod that removes every single radscorpian from the game! Infact, i was the one who requested it be made! You dont HAVE to use it, but you can if you want to.

Try playing Amnesia and then say Fallout 3 is scarry. The only times I got unnerved in fallout 3 was the first sewer with ghouls and the Dunwich building.

you should be very, VERY scared...

...stay away from Old Olney...

OP: It's probably just because your up playing it at 3 in the goddamned morning!

Besides, I find if a game is scary then I like it more... Adrenaline and stuff, you know!

This, so much. Every time I encountered one of those, if they got too close to me, I would almost literally enter a pocket dimension inside the chair my head was pressing against. The little ones I didn't mind, the big ones though... *shudder*
And the Albino ones too... ugh. They fill me with a primal terror.

Mirelurk Hunters too. Fuck those guys.

Try modding the hell out of it to give yourself some ludicrous advantage, then take the mods away one by one until you're running the standard game. That way you may ease yourself into it.

The Vaults scare me because they are dark, lonely, without sun, claustrophobic and you never know what kind of messed up shit you'll find in there.
But mostly I found it to be depressing because it's the post-apocalypse. You should try New Vegas, the writing and atmosphere aren't as serious, but there is more of a "yeehaw it's the post-apocalypse, that means ass-kicking free for all" feeling as opposed to III's "Darwin and Nietzsche were sentimental pussies" attitude.

Try playing with some mods then cry to me about scary. Fallout 3 is not even slightly scary vanilla. But with the reborn mod, zombies mod, and a dark nights mod, you do NOT want to be outside when night falls. Even worse if you have no ammo left...

Also, try playing Dead Space sometime, the first one is piss your pants scary, but number 2 is more action-based.
