If you do promise to get the Ipad wrist mount just to watch the expressions of the people who see you

The way I like to look at it, despite how many people try to deny it, is like a giant iTouch with a few more capabilities.
The TV and Monitor industries have been doing this for their entire existence and I've yet to seem THEM called out on it.

But then I guess mindlessly bashing them wouldn't make you "cool".

But then I guess following the rules wouldn't make you "cool".
I notice you didn't actually have any counterpoint to my argument.

I noticed I didn't have to. I stated my opinion of the iPad respectfully enough, I didn't sit here and call it shit or bash it as you claim. But you know, you can troll more if you like, since you seem to enjoy it.

Lol xD.

Seriously though, I have no interest in arguing with this individual. But then, I probably should've seen this coming as soon as I posted.

Read reviews, look at alternatives, ask for demonstrations in stores and ultimately decide for yourself?

No, they're not worth the money. They're decidedly worse than a comparable - and probably cheaper netbook, with an operating system that has several million less applications than Windows 7, sub-par multitasking and which needs to be tethered to a PC anyway.
Not looking for a netbook just a tablet and ironically where i live the Ipad seems to be the cheapest with the best features

Get a proper tablet PC. iPads are well marketed but not worth the money, you can get a significantly better one for a much lower price if you look around.

I like my iPad, it's pretty nifty when I want to look up something quickly on the internet without having to go load my PC up.
However I did only pay about £100 for mine, I found a code online that got me an 80% discount!

If you've shopped around and find the iPad to have the best features for its price, I'd go with that. You may be able to find a good tablet with the same features for a better price online, however, as I'm of the opinion that you can get most of what Apple sells for at least a little bit less in other brands.
In the end, if you want it and you've shopped around, go for it if you want it.

I have a friend who has one, and she absolutely swears by it. She uses it as a replacement for her - admittedly crappy - laptop, but doesn't really take it out of the house (in case it gets stolen/damaged) so...if you're not gonna take advantage of its portability, then I don't know whether it's worth it.

It looks interesting enough, but other companies have created better/more efficient products. All Apple does is take existing products and make them look shiny and purrrrdy.

It's basically a large iTouch...they haven't even added in the call features (with a microphone so you don't have to hold it to your ear, I mean) of the iPhone.

In my opinion, the iPads are NOT worth the money; most of the things on it aren't geared towards the casual user and, even if you ignore the presentation/document creating features, is the fact that Apple's software is largely static gonna put you off? If all you can do is Jailbreak it to get a couple of fancy backgrounds, is it worth it, when a laptop can do SO much more?

Thank you for your input i am fairly anti apple myself but the ipad looks interesting.
Let me also add. if/when you're resolved to buying one, hold off for a few months. Apple may release a new ipad, and guaranteed you'll feel like a fool not owning the latest shiny apple gadget.
yes i heard about that although i doubt Apple would release an Ipad2 so soon
Well actually, they are apparently planning to release the iPad Version 2 in February...

I have a little netbook, because I type a lot and I couldn't do without a proper keyboard. How are you meant to touch type on an ipad?

I work in the smartphone / tablet industry and am generally pretty anti Apple, however the iPad is not a piece of shit as many people are quick to say. That's not to say it's not totally overpriced considering the included hardware like all Apple products but it is far from being crap. It all depends on what you want to do with it and why you want a tablet PC in the first place. If you want it for business applications and acting as a bridge between other computers you own, remotely accessing servers in a network and stuff then yeh with the right Apps installed it is pretty cool.

HOWEVER. You can do exactly the same with a decent Android device at a lower cost. Plus if its more for the portable browsing and entertainment than a business tool then definitely go Android to save the cash. And wait 'til next year when 3.0 is finalised as 2.2/3 isn't really optimised for screens over 5". HTC will get one out without a doubt and the Samsung Tab will probably get an update. Ooh and the BlackBerry PlayBook will be out too which is shaping up nicely.

Please buy a netbook. They are more powerful, cheaper and you can do more with them.

Plus they have USB ports, media slots etc.

It truly is a no-brainer.
