Jesse Cox?

OT: I played through Katawa Shoujo back when it was fresh on the 'Net. I got Emi the first time, and damn, that was a good VN (not my favorite, that'd be Phoenix Wright). Second time, I hit Shizune and was very quickly disenchanted with it. It felt weird to go through Emi's story and then go back and choose someone else. I couldn't become invested again.

Also, Shizune's story was kind of extremely long and powerfully boring.

I plan to pick it up again sometime and read through the other girls.

Huh, Emi was my first too. And by mistake, too. I wanted to go after Shizune and BOOM! Emi's there. So I just went with it. But really, it was easy.
Yeah, I didn't mean to get her either. Same thing happened to a friend of mine, too. I wanted Lilly or Rin. I feel like it's too easy to get into Emi's arc.

Yeah isn't the main trigger for Emi's when you go for the run and have the option to literally go hard or go home?
I got her's because I refused to have some cocky 4feet nothin squirt mock me! Then heart attack :/

Yeah, that's the trigger, if I remember correctly.

I was going for friendly competition, not putting the moves on her! D:

Though the scene in the supply shack was kind of great. Not gonna lie.

Oh don't get me wrong I love her Arc, it just wasn't the one I wanted first haha. And I agree, that scene made my week! Gotta love amateurs xD

Okay...so since you beat the story...maybe you can help me out here. I finally downloaded the game to see what all the fuss was about....and I ended up falling off a roof in a drunken stupor. Of course as the credits roll I am thinking, "Well shit man...that was short..."...Can anyone explained what happened here? It's my first time trying to go through one of these visual novels in a serious manner. Should I be treating this as sort of a Choose Your Own Adventure Story? You know, like those books that give you a choice to go to page this or page that and you basically have a 50/50 shot at dying and having to start over.

Ah yes, the manliest of picnics. For, as we all know, there is nothing manlier than whiskey. And pretzels. And trouncing feminist conspiracies. Yes.

Anyway, the way I understand it, you get the MANLY PICNIC ending by not actually connecting with any of the girls prior to the festival. I managed to earn it on my... second playthrough, I think? Was trying to get Rin, but wasn't able to quite pull it off.

Though I think it takes some of the natural feel out of the VN, you might want to check out a walkthrough to help you through at least the first act. Because honestly, some of these choice chains get kind of weird. Here's a good one. [http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/650003-katawa-shoujo/wiki/2-1-act-one-cripple-walkthrough]

OT: KS has done things to my soul that I didn't even know were possible. The creators did a fantastic job of crafting a believable story as well as rich, deep, and relatable characters. Seriously, it's just a great read/play/whatever, even if the adult content feels a bit out of place at times. So glad I let my friends talk me into it.

Rin>Hanako>Shizune>Emi. Haven't played Lilly's route just yet.

Funny that cause that was the route I planned on taking after being introduced to the girls. Shizune seemed to stingy and picky, Rin was just so mentally out there I couldn't relate, and Hanako just seemed to sensitive. That narrowed it down to Lilly and Emi. Both definitely seemed to be in the right mindset, however since I tend to place myself in the main characters shoes as much as humanely possible, the one who related to me the most was Lilly. Which is odd that I got the bad ending because I was certain that I choose options that favored her. Sigh...guess I will try again. Thanks for the help.....

Also....Kenji is batshit crazy....

i have only done rins actually, i loved it, don't know why i choose rin, i just saw a image of her and just wanted to play her story, afterwards i was a bit confused with everyone saying she was confusing, i thought she was quite clear.

funny enough i actually have the same fear as rin, change, i don't know why i just can't stand it. hell i just got comfortable in my new school but i don't want to go this course any more, but changing would mean giving up all that i have been doing for half a year and i don't really have any other place to go anyway.

I got a Lilly, Emi, and Hanako completed run and a Rin in progress in seems, should get back to that ...

I liked Lilly's best so far, for different reasons then most would guess

Really? I didn't think RAITA was joking at all when he proposed the idea.
Yeah, it was just a little joke he did on the last page of a doujin, a fake design document/ad for a dating sim that crossed the line twice. He didn't actually plan on making it, at least not that I've ever heard.

Ehhhhhh

I always feel that media that use cripples, the mentally retarded or annoying and useless children in their story heavily come off as phoning it in and just being lazy when trying to make us care.

(See Mass Effect or the Walking Dead tv show for examples)

I find this difficult to believe.

You're honestly expecting us right-minded folk to believe that you, or indeed anyone, CHOSE Hanako, and actually managed to avoid Emi's route?
Pure balderdash!

Everybody gets Emi's route the first time!
False, I was almost tempted by Emi, but I was able to stay true to Shizune. It took me 10 hours to complete. Though I spent 9 hours straight playing this game yesterday. It was an amazing game and I cried 1 or 2 times, but my mom passed her wimpiness on to me so I am not surprised.

I played through and got hanako, probably because I wanted too, but the ending I got for her was like
"NO, THATS NOT FAIR! She doesn't get to be happy!?"
I was legitimately upset by hanako's ending i got at first, then I was heart broken as I tried to get a different ending and found out she had sex with the guy so he he wouldn't leave her.
Call me emotional but that made me cry.
I felt so damn bad for hanako. I felt like her story was intetionally supose to be reflective of people who get shit on their entire lives and are a mess because no one's ever given the time to love them or care for them.
I did her route on the weekend and my subconscious is blocking out any memories of her.

But they did end up dating in the end:)

And then they broke up...

Her epilogue written by the person who wrote her route should cheer you up:)

Off topic: How do you create a thread? I've looked everywhere and still don't know how.

Rin's route.

So many feels...

That one ruined me for several days, I'll admit. It hit particularly close to home for me, since she reminded me about a girl I've been involved with in one way or another for the last 7 years.

The bad endings are down right heartbreaking.

The good? Soulful stuff.

I firmly recommend the game.

I found Rin's to be... annoying more than anything else.
Rin's route was an emotional rollercoaster that overshadowed every other route for me. I find her path to easily be the best written route of all, with Hanako/Lilly a somewhat close second.

Trust me, there's a reason why Rin puts you into such a mindset, a reason why so many people love Rin's path and a reason why this path was left to the main writer to write. Doing what they did in that path took a lot of talent to execute successfully and if it clicks with you, you're going to absolutely love it.

... How does that cheer anyone up? That was DEPRESSING!

I mean sure she has... somewhat moved on, but only after being put into an Asylum, dumped, and thrown out into the world alone and afraid. No. I like the original ending better >~<
She didn't go to an asylum... Where did you get that from?

From Cpl_Crud himself: ?Hey, great, she went off, lived her life, married some guy because she wanted to be happy, but ended up screwing it up and getting a divorce. Now she finally gets back together with Hisao? isn?t that sweet!?

I downloaded the game because I was bored and fell in love (no pun intended) with it.

I was originally going for Shizune but I ended up Hanako in the first section. I really like Hanako got the best ending for her.

Now if I didn't suck so much at real life.
