http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/offbeat/9068286/eight-year-old-has-botox-wants-boob-job/

Single mum Kerry Campbell wants her daughter to become a star, which is why she injects the child with Botox.

Eight-year-old Britney also wants a breast enlargement.

The child's beauty routine includes climbing onto a beautician's table every three months so her mum can inject her face with Botox and fillers, which beautician Ms Campbell, 34, buys online.

The substances are injected into Britney's forehead and lips and around her eyes.

"The beauty-pageant obsessed single mum also takes her to have her body waxed, in a bizarre bid to stop her growing hair when she eventually hits puberty," The Sun reported.

Ms Campbell said the treatments would guarantee that Britney would become famous as a teenager.

"What I am doing for Britney now will help her become a star," she said.

"I know one day she will be a model, actress or singer, and having these treatments now will ensure she stays looking younger and baby-faced for longer.

I can only say. What is this world coming to?
Does this sort of thing need to be stopped?

This is obviously a case for child protective services.

I cannot imagine such a thing being even remotely legal.

This is disgusting.

For thousands of years parents have been abusing their children, I don't see what the surprise is. It's disgusting but "I cannot believe this mother and her daughter" is not how I feel about this at all. I believe it quite easily.

Welcome to Earth.

Why can't the Escapist community find happier news? Like Japan having next to no looting. Nice stuff.
Yeah, this is sad and terrible and whatever else you want to call it, but it's nothing totally different from anything we've seen before. I assumed we all just knew stuff like this went on every now and again.

Oh Lord, for a glorious moment there I forgot about the boundary of human stupidity (or rather, the lack of a boundary).

Geeze. I mean, I suppose there are worse stories out there, but the mental effect on the child is rather worrying. I mean, it sounds like she will come out expecting the world to provide her with whatever she wants. If you want to be a star, its ok, you just need to look nice. Forget talent, personality, or anything like that. The actual chance of being a star in any fashion is really, really low, so what would she think if she doesn't get this?

I don't know, its all screwed up I think.

This can't be great for the poor girl's attitude towards herself and towards beauty...I'm going to hope Child Services step in, botox is friggin' poison after all.

Have child services been contacted? Do I need to do it?
Edit: Why is there no option to report online?

And this is why people should be forced to pass an IQ test before being allowed to have a child. Honestly, this is just too dumb for words!

also, AlmostLikeLife, thanks for pretty much exactly spelling out my thoughts

Botox is botulism toxin. I'm pretty sure it should be illegal to use at all, but on a child... Its nuts.

"Britney's father, a research scientist who died four years ago aged 83, regarded the beauty treatments as normal."

So, the dad was 75, and the mum was 26, when they had the kid. Just sayin'.

Heh, this.

But don't act surprised when you/your children are dancing to her auto-tuned billboard topping pop songs in ten years time.

So I've heard stories like this before, it isn't terribly surprising. Child Beauty Pageantry is a kind of twisted concept to start with.

I think it is pretty hilarious that a grown woman using the products first is a suitable way of analyzing the effects of a chemical on someone with an entirely different set of biochemical actions, but she was married to a vaguely titled scientist who thought this was normal so it must be on the up and up.

The most disturbing part of this to me was the child checking herself for wrinkles and "finding" some hence asking for botox. Unless this girl has some strange skin condition it is pretty much impossible for an 8 year old's skin to lack the plasticity necessary to create wrinkles. This shows some pretty intense body image delusions.
