"A Serbian Film".

Just typing those very words upon the screen, knowing I am about to post a discussion relating to it, and demanding a discussion of the sorts from this movie...makes me look down upon myself as a human being. I am conflicted. One part of me wants to fight all urges to post this. Why might you ask? What is the big deal in the end?

To put it mildly...this film depicts the most violent, abominable, extreme shit you've ever seen in a movie. I feel guilty after having read what it is about...and I haven't even seen the film. I have read the plot synopsis of it, and have seen reviews of it.

For those interested, here is a link of the trailer.

For those interested even further, here are some of the reactions on youtube:

And now, I will post a small excerpt from Wikipedia, slightly detailing non-plot points about the film. I AM NOT JOKING. THIS IS NSFW. YOU MAY BE APPALLED JUST IN READING ABOUT THE SMALL DETAILS I AM ABOUT TO COPY AND PASTE.

A Serbian Film (Serbian: Српски филм / Srpski film) is a 2010 Serbian horror film and the first feature film directed by Srđan Spasojević.[3] It tells the story of a down-on-his-luck porn star who agrees to participate in an "art film", only to discover that he has been drafted into a snuff movie with child rape and necrophilic themes. The film stars Serbian actors Srđan Todorović and Sergej Trifunović.

Upon its debut on the art film circuit, the film received substantial attention for its graphic depictions of rape, necrophilia, and paedophilia.

The state prosecution of Serbia opened an investigation to find out if the film violates the law. It is being investigated for elements of crime against sexual morals and crime related to the protection of minors.[4] It was banned by a San Sebastián (Spain) court for "threatening sexual freedom" and thus could not be shown in the XXI Semana de Cine Fantástico y de Terror (21st Horror and Fantasy Film Festival)[5] and banned in Norway after two months of sales due to violation of criminal law section 204a and 382 that deals with sexual representation of children and extreme violence. The film was shown at an adults only screening at the Sitges Film Festival in Spain during October 2010; as a result the festival's director Ángel Sala has been charged with exhibiting child pornography by the Spanish prosecutor who decided to take action in May 2011 after receiving a complaint from a Roman Catholic organization over a pair of scenes involving the rapes of a young child and a newborn.

I for one...don't think I can watch this film. I am a very liberal, open-minded person when it comes to things such as artistic depictions to relate a message of some sorts...but in the name of everything that is holy, righteous, and good...this just makes me not want to even attempt it.

I still feel bad about posting this, but will just do it to see how the community reacts here. Tell me what you think.

Edit - Yes. I am aware I talked nothing of the plot line. Leave that for further discussion. What's my ultimate point of this post? To simply let others see this, discuss, and say whether or not they feel this ultimately crosses the line that can't be crossed within films.

if they cut out the child porn/necrophilia shit... it could be watchable as a horror movie. with it in... unwatchable.

...And? I'd still watch it?

The whole point of horror is to shock, scare and even disgust you.
i'm sort of inclined to agree. its just the scenes with child porn themes that i would hate to watch, even as a film of pure gut-wrenching horror.

but what are we brits going to age-rate it?
JO? (jesus only)
A-CO? (anti-christ only)
FHETFDCSTSCS? (fucking hell even the fucking devil couldnt stomach this shit, christs sake.)

Films like this are all about reactions. The stronger the reaction, the better they did their job. I haven't seen it yet but I want to.

That's kinda horrific. I'm all for freedom of expression, even in ways that other people might think are horribly offensive, but the difference between something like that and 120 Days of Sodom (a book by the Marquis de Sade which features similar themes) is that in a book you can represent something genuinely appalling and abominable without potentially scarring someone for life.

Looks like my kind of movie! Can't wait to see this one!

In all seriousness, I'm conflicted, with some of the stuff you see coming out worldwide, half of me isnt surprised, and maybe if this is meant to be a shock film, a "this is actually happening but you never hear about it, so here it is, in your face, unavoidable, raw and emotionally charging, now DO something about it" film, then, iunno, maybe I could see it being something? But the other half of me is just like, dayum, there are some limits, and it sounds like this movie doesn't just cross them, it performs paedophelia on the damn way by!. And if this movie is just for the sake of itself, just some pet project to see how much child porn they get away with putting into shows and theaters before thye go thrown in jail, that's not film, it's not art, its child porn/abuse, and they do need to go to jail, for a loooong time

I don't want to see it. I have watched some pretty heavy films and enjoyed them at least on their artistic merits.

This, however, strikes me as sensationalist. From what I saw I think it is just being shocking for its own sake, like the Saw movies for example, and doing so with some truly vile and appalling subject matter.

I really don't see what the big deal is. There is so much worse shit out there (as far as shock value), that it makes this look like The Ninja Turtles.

Besides, being on the internet for a considerable amount of time should have desensitized damn near everyone by now. We live in a world were dead baby jokes are thrown around like knock-knock jokes.

A Serbian Film is the Faces of Death of the horror genre, and you guys are really sounding like your parents finally let you off your PG-13 restriction. Knock it off.

I get that this is gruesome in terms of humanity but I didn't even grimace at the description. I'm not even close to being a horror enthusiast. I wouldn't watch it but I was expecting monstrous class gore. I see it's bad but it could have been much worse. Did anyone hear what was planned for the Human Centipede 2 before it was rejected by developers. Its so evil they wouldn't even make it. Every aspect of that could give nightmares.

To sum up: Very bad but could be much worse.
