If it was real then I'd probably not watch it and be horrified that people actually do it.

As it's a movie I quite fancy watching it as it's 'fake' and merely just trying to get a reaction.
Much like Saw or Hostel which some consider very graphic I think this just falls into a similar group of movies to shock!

Not sure how the director could be prosecuted if nothing actually happened!

I hate horror and splatter films. All films that make me feel uncofortable, really. Films like Saw and Hostel disgust me.
Still, I sort of want to watch this movie as a celebration of free speech.
Because no matter how disgusting it is; so long as it isn't snuff, it's okay.

I don't think I could stomach it though.

Well, there goes any chance i'll ever have at watching this movie. Unless with illegal downloads, but our government doesn't really approve of that either, and with the DLD up and running i'd have the king's men kicking down my door or something pretty soon... that or the spanish inquisition(though now i'm expecting them, so...)

OT: Sounds like something i would watch just for the sake of watching something utterly disturbing and morally wrong.

It's like a train crash. It's a horrible scene, but there's a part of you that says you just can't turn away. Human curiosity is a fickle *****.

EDIT: Removed the typos i noticed... I think i'm losing my grip >_<

You might have a point if this didn't feature "graphic depictions of rape, necrophilia and paedophilia."
Oh you mean like Unforgivable? Hounddog? Necromantic? The August Underground films? The original Last House On The Left/I Spit On Your Grave?
None of this is anything new, buddy.

Frankly, if your being on the internet for a considerable length of time has desensitized you to films that feature the rape of a newborn child, you are going to the wrong websites.
Be that as it may, that still doesn't change the fact that rape, necrophilia and paedophilia happen every single day in this world. Suddenly losing your shit over just one film that depicts them is just naive.

Imagine watching Supersize Me for the first time and thinking to yourself "Holy shit, fast food is bad for me? MY WHOLE LIFE HAS BEEN A LIE!"

Soooooo... no "pro" options in the poll?

I enjoyed the film.

Way to be objective and look for insight from the entire community by allowing everyone to participate in the poll. Oh, wait...

A Serbian snip
For the record, I have seen the film. Funnily enough, I actually learned about it from a lecturer as part of my screenwriting course. Yeah, a pedagogical figure actually introduced me to this thing, though looked it up myself out of a mixture of curiosity and research. Now, I'm largely desensitized to any gratuitous displays and while there are many fucked up things that occur and the odd thing that made me wince, the gore is not what bothers me. Apart from being well acted and well shot, the film just has nothing to it. I liken the experience to listening to a Cannibal Corpse album, the things occurring are so ridiculously over the top that I can't take it seriously. The mental image I concuct while watching this film is of a bunch of guys sitting at a table trying to list off as many things as they can to make this movie seem brutal and sick as though need to meet a certain quota of incest, necrophilia, etc. Just cramming as many things as they can with the delusion that that will make their film shocking and intense. But I can't buy all of these things happening, it breaks the immersion and conjures the aformentioned image of those guys ticking things of their checklist. The twist at the end of the film Oldboy was far more shocking, disturbing and resonates more with me than anything I'd seen in a Serbian Film because I was so much more connected to that story and characters. The violence and anguish displayed there felt much more palpable, there was an overall greater sense of verisimilitude and immersion. I swear I'm totally serious when I say A Serbian Film is utterly forgettable to me, it's reputation carries more weight and the discussions it produces are far more memorable than anything that happens in the flick itself. The major defense of the film from it's creators seem to be that the film is allegorical for their opressive government. I have two objections to this statement, the first is that any allusions to this theme made via dialogue and semiotics are increadibly vague and without being told before hand you would never draw this conclusion for yourself. Secondly, a film has to be able to stand up on it's own merits, if the story in it's own right is not engaging then you have failed as a storyteller. In short, there's nothing of real merit here that's actually worth your time. If your only doing this for curiosities sake like I was, well...you come off as a bit more squeemish than me so perhaps it isn't really worth it just to get the 'I survived A Serbian Film' badge. Anyway, that's my two cents on the whole thing, take it for what it's worth.

Censorship is a slippery slope guys.

I personally have no desire to see this movie, at all. However, everything it depicts is legit. If it didn't appall and terrify you them it wouldn't be doing it's job very well would it. So long as they didn't actually rape and murder women and children on set (which they didn't) then it's just another movie that's not hurting anyone. Arguing that it's the movie's fault that it's content could be used as pornography by some sick individuals is futile. If the movie didn't exist there are still plenty of real images on the internet for these few people to get off to.

Is it art? Well, you'd have to ask someone who actually gives a shit.

Does it have a right to exist? Most certainly.

... I don't want to know. As soon as I read what the movie was about, I just didn't want to know. It's like beyond worse then any movie I heard of and I have seen some heavy disturbing stuff. I think even the movie 'The Human Centipede' is child friendly compared to what this movie is about... *shivers*.
If The Human Centipede is the worst example you can think of, then you sir don't watch many movies. :p

OT: What the hell is the big deal?
You lot seem to be forgetting one tiny detail here; it's a movie.
It's not real. People aren't really getting raped. They're not really getting killed. It's just a movie. Made to scare and shock people and this thread is doing nothing but proving the film did exactly what it was supposed to do and a damn good job at that.
I've seen the movie and didn't think it was too bad. It was actually pretty well done. In fact... it was really well done to the point that I was taken aback by how technically amazing it actually was for a film like that.
Acting, cinematography and direction are all superb. Yeah, the content is extreme but it's just like any other film. It's made to get a reaction from you.

If you hate the movie so much, stop giving it attention.

What does it mean to be "Appauled"? Is that like, the state of being Paul?
I think you need to step away from the keyboard for a while...and think about what you just typed...
No, he was making a joke about spelling.

Appauled isn't a word. And if it was, it would mean something about someone named Paul. The word that should have been used it 'appalled'.
*thinks*...

...*checks the dictionary*...

...so it was...

Wait, what? What the fuck? So the story is about a former porn star that gets into a business of people who rape children and dead corpses? With ACTUAL rapes in it? With actual footage from REAL shit?

Well, I'm mostly appalled when a regular porno gets on TV with just a -16 age restriction for being an "art film", but this? What the flying fucking shaved and fried potatoes?

I've seen it, I don't dislike it for what it shows, I dislike it for the fact that I find it to be a boring movie.
