I can't decide which starter to choose in X and Y!

With Pokemon X and Y right around the corner, I am faced with a problem that I haven't really been faced with in some time: I can't decide which of the new starters to choose.

Personally, I like them all, but I'm having trouble deciding which one to get, not just because I have to choose between the three of them, but ALSO because of the other starters you get in the game.

Firstly, there's the fact that at the beginning, you'll get a choice of one of the original 3 starters in addition to one of the new ones. Then there's also the Torchic event, so you can start the game with THREE starters if you choose.

Personally, Torchic is one of my favorite starters of all time, so it seems obvious to me that I choose him as the fire starter. But then again, Charizard has that wicked new half-dragon mega evolution, so that's a viable choice. But if I go Charizard, that means I miss out on Blastoise's equally awesome mega evolution. But then again again, Bulbasaur was always my favorite of the original trio.

Of course, that's ignoring the new trio. Fennekin is probably my favorite of the three, but as I've already said, both of the other fire starters are awesome. Perhaps Froakie then? But then I'd miss out on Blastoise. Chespin is probably my least-favorite of the three (although I think they're all good). Perhaps I'd like his final evolution better? But I haven't seen it yet, so I don't know.

You're tearing me apart, Pokemon! I honestly don't think choosing a starter Pokemon has ever been this hard for me. Anyone else having trouble choosing? Or perhaps you've already chosen? What did you choose, and why?

I've chosen to continue my tradition of getting all versions so I can get what I want without having to hurt my head over starters and version exclusives. That said, I can always use Pokemon Bank for one version, get all the starters I wouldn't pick (because they have the misfortune of not being Fire types), so I can start over and transfer them to my main one.

Since I love me some Fire types, my main team will be Fennekin, Torchic, Charmander, Litleo, a water type (probably Clauncher or just something that can use Water moves) and Dedenne/Fletchling, type coverage be damned. Then I'll have a second, more balanced one.

Well I know I'll be picking Charmander so I might go with Froakie for my other starter so I can have both water and fire types.

I'm going to have to go with Froakie, mainly because I want to see what kind of monstrous frog his final evolution will be and water starter pokemon have always been a good choice. Fennekin does look cool, but I just came off of pokemon white 2 picking Tepig who I found to be completely terrible. A slow fire / fight that will get 1 shot by everything before even getting off an attack, I hated that stupid pig.

I love having reliable grass and poison pokemon but there always seem to be great alternatives in the wild and that grass starter looks pretty poopy, although I'm sure his final evolution makes up for it.

I always thought water starters were the weakest choice, because there's a whole lot more kickass water pokemon available early in the game than there are fire or grass...

I'm going with Chespin, because his evolution is unbearably cute. I want a plushie of it.

So, since I made this thread, I decided to just suck it up, and look at the leaked final evolutions of the new starters. And... (drumroll please):

...I've decided to go Chespin, with Squirtle as my retro starter, along with Torchic. My reasoning? Chespin's final evolution is DEFINITELY my favorite of the trio.

Changing my mind. Just looked up those final evolutions of the starters. I'll be picking Chespin.

I didn't like the final evolution of Froakie at first, but it's grown on me a lot, and I like the typing.

Also, Charmander for Mega Charizard. Mega Charizard is rad.

As of right now, my team is Charmander, Torchic, and Froakie. Froakie's final form is my favorite of the three, even if Fennekin is my favorite first form of the starters. Fire is my favorite starter type, but seeing Fennekin's final form turned me off a bit, and it would be weird to have three fire starters in my team like that any way.

I'm in denial in that those starters are fake.

I'm swaying between Fennekin and Chespin, but I may ultimately choose Fennekin like I originally planned.

Making my team horribly imbalanced with the Torchic, and Charmander.

I would say you should go with a water starter since you get a free Torchic and grass are generally the weaker ones. Also consider Pokemon Bank to get all of them, that's what I am planning at least.

Personally I am stumped though. I really want that Charizard, but it seems like a waste to have both a Charizard and a Blaziken in my team, however Charizard could kick Blaziken'sass since it's flying, Blaziken got the advantage against rock that is Charizard's worst enemy.... Yeah, I'm looking forward to this.

Well I am definitely going to go for Charmander for mega Charizard X so for the sake of a balanced team I would probably go for Froakie or Chespin. I suppose it helps in my case that I really dislike Fennekin's final form, which is a shame because Fennekin was shaping up to be quite a cool starter to go for.

Me and two friends of mine all called which starter each of us was getting, this was before the second stages were known. I picked Chespin and guess what... I made a decent choice, judging from the final stages. As did the dude who picked Froakie.

The one with Fennekin definitely got the short end of the stick though. I was expecting a psychic witch levitating on a broom with a fire jet engine. Instead we got Gothitelle with fur.
