I can't help but feel that Assassin's Creed is slowly dying on the inside.

When I started Revealations I agreed with the OP, but after finishing it, knowing that anymore games with Altair or Ezio are unlikely. I'm very optimistic about AC3, the sheer fact that it's going to be in the present is going to require an overhaul of proportions far greater than the jump from 1 to 2.

Also who thinks that the memory storing technology introduced in revelations is perhaps one of the ways they're going to work around keeping you in memories to keep the video game aspects but not have to have Desmond strapped down to an animus?
They did mention in a few interviews that it would be the last game with Ezio and Altair.

Played the first one, foresaw that it was going to lose it's soul, become a ploy to part customers with their money annually and sell out, it did, I now never touch the series.

Also, would you expect anything different from Ubisoft?

To be honest I've enjoyed all the AC games. I mean Revelations had some awful features sure, like the tower defense and the fact that the main villain was lackluster and only appeared near the end, kinda. Also, I will agree that Ezio's vast arsenal of weapons is ridiculous but in the end I used very little of it. I only ever used my sword, hidden blades or fist because that was all I needed. In my opinion Revelations was only there to stop Ezio's story and it does that well. The ending worked well too, charging up several emotions. Sadness, Happiness, and excitement. Now that I've got that out the way I think I can finally say this. I recommend that anyone who ever played the first AC read the Book, "Assassins Creed: The Hidden Crusade". Seriously go read it, its great.

I do love the Assassins Creed games, but they are getting a bit easy. AC1 had some fairly hard bits, but since then the only way to fail missions (for me at least) is to get detected on the "no detection" missions. Once you find out you can counter during other kill animations, combat is stupidly easy.

Story wise, it's hit and miss. Personally, I loved the story of AC2, except the previously mentioned last 5 minutes. After that its kinda got a bit silly.

However, when all is said and done I enjoy the gameplay immensely, and thats what I play for, even if it really lacks any kind of real "fail state" these days.

I'm playing through AC:R at the moment (I hired it) and I've gotta say, where the fuck did they go wrong with this series?

It's got way too much gimmicky bullshit and frankly, they should have stopped Ezio's story at AC2. I'm so fucking sick of that time period it's not funny.

Y'know what I want? I want a new character, a new setting (fuedel Japan please) and a fucking crouch button.
Seriously, does nobody in this universe know how to crouch? What. The. Dickens.
Play Tenchu?
I did, way back on PS1 in the day. Tenchu was awesome for what it was, but my god, it was constricting.

AC1 was, as far as games go, alright. I've played worse, but the AI (particularly guards) are absolute balls.
I only JUST finished AC2's main campaign, and that was a thoroughly enjoyable ride, if a little grindy at times (if I have to assassinate more than 3-4 enemies in one sitting, I get bored). If the other games are like AC2 (with perhaps a few minor differences), I can see your problem. However, the devs for AC3 promise that it won't include any of the previous assassins...it'll be interesting to see where it goes, especially in terms of time period.

And the whole overarching 2012 phenomenon thing is absolutely ridiculous.
