EDIT: It appears as if someone has revived my thread and given me a new badge!
I'm back again, and I've checked out quite a few bands these people have kindly suggested. It's going to take me a very long while to check them all out with my limited bandwidth, though. Thank you all in advance!
I've compiled an extensive list from the suggestions these previous posters have so generously given me. It is now midnight and my school starts in eight hours. I'm now off to bed. Good night, and thank you all for your help.

I think this thread will now quietly face the Page 400 Monster. If you have any band suggestions, you can just message me instead of bumping up an old thread. Thanks!

The music I've been listening to is getting, well... I'm getting tired of listening to the same old stuff. Would anyone like to post their suggestions?

I've got a few examples of my favorite metal music here.
-Cradle of Filth
-Dimmu Borgir
-Behemoth
-Gojira
-Strapping Young Lad
-Meshuggah
-Melechesh
-Nile
-Opeth
-Vader
...Pretty much the heavy and the dark stuff, though I'm open to the classics such as Rush and Tesla.

Also, I'd greatly appreciate album recommendations for any band you post.

All metal fans should check this out. Jazz Metal. Give it a try.

Devin Townsend and/or Strapping Young Lad and associated projects. Wiki 'em. Very good stuff, especially if you're looking for more alternative stuff.

Sadly, my tastes run more toward power metal, but should I look upon those as recommendations?

I've never heard of Devin Townsend, I'll have to check them out. I have heard of SYL and I'm ashamed to not own any of their music. Are there any must-have albums I should know about?

Please do, these are awesome. I've got CDs from Mastodon, Slayer (of course!), and Whitechapel. Same question: Any albums I must have from any of these artists?

Probably not. The closest thing I can get to power metal is Kamelot's March of Maphisto.

Heh, sorry, I meant more recommendations for me... ^^;

I think I've heard a couple of Kamelot's songs before. They any good?

I would Strongly Suggest any album from Heaven Shall Burn; "Unhallowed" Black Dahlia Murder; "Facing the Thousand" Light this City.

I see. By what I've heard of their music, there's not much to dislike, unless of course you're not a fan of power metal. From what comments I've heard, Kamelot is power metal's Slayer. Does that make any sense?

Gasp! My plans for Oregon domination are nearly complete. Now all I require is a quart of nitroglycerin.
I would NOT know where to get that

Only a vague amount. The farthest I've ever gotten out of power/symphonic metal are Metallica, Finntroll, and some Megadeth.

Ever heard anything by Blind Guardian?

I've heard of Symphony X before; by what I've heard, they're decent at best. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll be looking into Circus Maximus shortly.

That's what Rush is for ;)
Ever heard them? They're amazing. Can't ever beat the classics.
