The operative part being where he said it caused "more sadness in [him] than this [song]." :D
I'm aware. But still. The dude ought to be ashamed.
To be honest, "In The End" did provoke a more emotional response the first time I heard it than the song he asked us to listen to.
D:

What is this world that we live in, where people feel Linkin Park is capable of illiciting meaningful emotional responses at all? T___T

Eh, it was definitely sad, but nope, not a single tear shed, and I have a habit of crying really easily over emotional stuff.

The sampling of Mancini's "Love Story" was so excrutiatingly manipulative and derivative that I found myself losing patience with the piece. Sorry, not my bag.

A song which actually affects me emotionally, though?

Trust Waits to wax the melancholy juuust right.

Even if you don't like hip-hop you have to listen to this song. It is one of the only songs that has ever had me speechless after first hearing it. Its such a tragic story and I find myself on the verge of tears at the end of it. Its just that powerful of a song and this is what real hip-hop should be not all that shit about swag and partying, but real shit that has a message.
Not a single tear was shed that day. Now what did I win?

No tears here. Then again, I spent the last 8 hours or so serving the Sith empire very faithfully. Oh the atrocities one would commit...

Had to look up the lyrics, couldn't stand that awful song for 7 minutes. It's a sad story, and I'm sure if it was incorparated into a better song it would have been emotional

OH is this one of those things where a guy says something with one profile, and then creates another just to agree with himself? Those guys are dicks

Oh great, Thanks! I'd completely forgotten all about this piece of shit until I clicked on the video. I remember hearing this years ago and my reaction is exactly the same now as it was then. It's just vulgarity for the sake of itself. It's not deep or emotionally impactful at all. It's only effective in the same way the description of any gruesome crime would be. I could go and write a song about a man being slowly dismembered with a potato peeler and it would have the same effect. Sure it's shocking, but for all the wrong reasons. The singer isn't trying to draw your attention to some societal problem or affect any sort of meaningful change. He's just trying to shock you for the sake of shocking you with the sickest shit he can come up with. What pisses me off the most about it isn't the graphic description of a boy raping his own mother, or the whole "devil made him do it" shit, it's the smugness surrounding the entire piece. If it had the same self-awareness that's becoming present in the works of more and more rappers these days, I'd be fine, but it doesn't. This guy thinks his song is fucking brilliant and expects us all to take it absolutely seriously.

To summarize, this song is balls. And Immortal Technique is a hack.

I find it off putting how people aren't feeling quite horribly sorry for the mother in this situation. Seriously, she got clean, worked her ass off and ended up getting beaten and raped by her own son, watched him die, and then was murdered shortly after.

how is that NOT sad. I'm not crying, but many of these comments are disturbingly sterile.

All I'm really seeing in this thread is some guy complaining about "black community" problems, and complaining about how "whitey" put those black people there.

Yeah, not everyone is born rich, but If you don't try to better yourself you NEVER will be better.

Should have raised him better /cynicism

No, I actually agree with that sentiment. But the whole narrative wants to focus on the son himself: to the point where I didn't really think of that aspect until a few minutes later.

The song was so terrible I couldn't stand to listen to it so I just looked up the lyrics, and I go nothing. Why am I suppose to feel sad? Because he had a tough life and killed his mother and felt bad about it afterwards? Gee why not think about that beforehand. Almost all of it was his choice. He could of chose differently but didn't. I might feel bad if it was a tough decision, but the stuff he did was just plain stupid and he got to deal with the consequences.

He's the kind of song that makes me cry:

I've heard it over 100 times and I still tear up every time.
You know you basically just said that a kid's first pet dying is more tragic than the situation of black people living in ghettos struggling to survive. I can't really explain in words how fucked up that is.
B-B-But Puppies are awesome. Also not a single tear,I was not that saddened. Mostly disgusted.

No, no, listen to this. Listen to the lyrics of this song, and tell me you don't feel anything.

Nope, nothing. No tears, no sadness, nothing at all. Quite frankly, I liked it better when Coolio did it. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFK6H_CcuX8]

EDIT:
A short list of songs that elicited more sadness in me than this one:
"Mary Jane's Last Dance" by Tom Petty
"Hurt" by Johnny Cash
The aforementioned Gangster's Paradise.
"Digging in the Dirt" by Peter Gabriel.
"Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes" by Paul Simon.
"Hotel California" by The Eagles.
"Eleanor Rigby" by The Beatles.
"Major Tom (Coming Home)" By Peter Schilling.
"Shout" and "Madworld" by Tears for Fears.
"Dream On" by Aerosmith.
"Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zepplin.
"Once in a Lifetime" by The Talking Heads.
"Don't Stop Believing" by Journey.
Any Linkin Park song ever.
And dozens upon dozens more!
Dang, you had a pretty good list up until that point.

Understandable, he definitely is the focal point of the song. Really, it's more of a cautionary tale than anything else, and I doubt it was even designed to elicit the type of sadness OP is referring to. Of course, from a musical perspective, I'd have to question if it was even 'designed' at all.

I like the song. I wasn't really moved, but that's probably because I like all forms of music and I listen to this type of rap very often. Still, this guy's got a lot of skill. I wouldn't mind listening to any albums that he's put out.
