I've never watched this show. All I know about it are the rather funny memes floating around it (My favorite being the one stating "It's friendship, I don't gotta explain shit!"). All I know about it is that it's a fanfic and it's apparently incredibly disturbing, and considering the light hearted look of the show I really desire to read it.

Someone explain this to me. Moltar commands it! Moltar also demands a link! ...And a can of cold vintage seltzer, with ice!

Okay, we don't like to talk about it, but it's better to give an explanation than deny it completely.

Basically, Pinkie Pie imprisons Dash, tortures her to death, and makes baked goods from pieces of her. Apple Bloom helps.

I recommend not following this link to the story, but here it is anyway.

Now this thread will hopefully be forgotten before anyone else discovers it.

Wait, what? I'm not even a brony and I find that disturbing as all hell. That's really what that fanfic is about?!

0_o I don't know which is worse, that, or the twilight-meets-harry-potter fanfic with the atrocious grammar that my girlfriend heard about...

Okay I've read it. It's fantastically frightening, a great read too. Shit is on par with The Strangers in terms of horror.

Best part has to be the "Hay Dash! Think fast!" part. I actually felt that.

I thought it was disturbing the first time I read it. I felt bad while reading certain parts of it. I'm actually glad I did read it though, since I wouldn't have watched the show otherwise.

hey, do those cupcakes have rainbow frosting? Mmmmm.

But seriously it's very difficult to read, I don't feel good at all. I feel bad for thinking up the line above this one, but it seemed funny given the circumstances. I rate it below Twilight on the list of things I wish to read a second time.
It's just above Breaking Dawn on the list.

Why would one do this to themselves?
Why do people like horror things in general? I get suspense, I get Silent Hill, but I don't get slashers and torture.

That was...
Boring.

Yawnaroony.
The thought of Cartoon Ponies doing TERRIBLE THINGS doesn't seem to bother me much.

I must admit, I was a little disturbed when the author started adding certain bodily functions.
Other than that, nope.

It wasn't very well written either.

See... your best protection from morbid curiosity is abstinence (yes, the sense in which it is actually used). I haven't read it myself and I never will...

How anyone could write it...
Ask him [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/Easton+Dark] yourself

Okay, just finished reading it. I have to say, that was pretty stupid. I laughed a little at the scene with the puns (I guess I wasn't expecting puns in this story lol), but mostly it was boring. Not well written at all, really short, and there was just enough characterization to make you realize that these ponies have completely different personalities than the ones they're supposed to be based on. Nothing about what Pinkie is doing is explained, although it is hinted at somewhat and that just raises more questions, but while that sort of writing is usually great for horror, here it just makes the whole thing even more annoying. Also, during the first part (after the thing actually starts, before that the entire situation is just plain awkward) there is a tiny bit of anxiety for the characters, but then suddenly the pacing blows up and kills any suspense there may have been, though of course the puns may have had something to do with it as well. There were a few potentially interesting ideas that weren't expanded upon in the slightest. It's a half-ass job on a fanfic from a half-ass genre.

I don't know, maybe I've just seen too much of this kind of thing to care anymore. Maybe I've engrossed myself in horror media and creepypastas for too long. But Cupcakes isn't disturbing, it's too badly written to properly disturb someone. What this is, is disgusting. Disgusting is the feeling you get when something smells really bad. Just like being scared is not the same thing as being startled, there's a difference between something being sick and something being truly disturbing. For this to be disturbing in the slightest, we would need to be able to empathize with Dash. There is another one like this, but with humans and much better writing. I can't seem to find it, but it happens in a hospital. The guy goes in for surgery, and this happens to him instead. No reason is given, or anything. I can empathize with that, and I'm going to remember it and get freaked the fuck out whenever I have to go in for surgery in the future. But Cupcakes has no place in my existence, so it doesn't scare me or disturb me.

There is a fanfic that disturbed me when I read it, and it still disturbs me to this day.

Haven't read it in years, so it's probably not as bad as I remember it. Not too well written. Kinda stupid. But holy fuck I will never ever look at Tom Nook or those fucking dancing fire hydrants the same way ever again. That is what being disturbed is all about. This shit sticks with me. Cupcakes, on the other hand ... I've already forgotten what it was about, honestly :p

Certain extent I agree, but I think the true horror comes from the idea of this horrible thing happening in an otherwise benine universe. Like if Big Bird on Sesame Street suddenly got infected with the T-Virus, or to use Zombies again, that painting of kids fighting zombies on a child playground (Zombie Playground it's called). The horrorifying nature of it is ones idea of childhood innocence not only being warped but suddenly become under attack.

I do agree with the pacing, it does start to fall apart by the end. But I have to shower it with praise for the things it gets right. It's not to often I'll see/read something that visibly made me jump with imaginary pain like
Pinkie Pie ripping off the 2nd wing of Rainbow Dash. The pacing for that small section is excellent, luring one to think it can't get much worse but it does.

also, as far as humanizing Rainbow Dash, I know it doesn't help much, but I love the part were she just weakly states "I want to go home." there is something so undeniably sad about that line that hits one in the heart.

I don't know if you've seen Kevin Smith's Red State but
Theres a scene in that flick, where after falling headfirst into a situation where the character knows he and his friends are probably going to get killed the teenaged kid just starts crying and states "I want my mother" and it's just HEART WRENCHING.

Admittedly, I'm not a horror buff, and I will concede it's flaws but I feel theres a lot to like here.
